Let me introduce The Machine- HP’s latest invention that could revolutionize the computing world. According to HP, The Machine is not a server, workstation, PC, device or phone but an amalgamation of all these things.
Diane Therrien's insight:
Amazing progress in techno....when are we going to do so in the matters of the heart and mind....?
Leaders of tomorrow will not be politicians or business people. We are a moment in history, 2013 is a stepping stone, not a final station. People have always been divided between what they believe in and what they get as leadership even if they are given choices. And this is becoming more evident as it is brought to our attention by the Medias.
In a democracy, ideally people get to elect their leaders. The reality is very different. Politicians who get to rise to the top levels buy their way around. Powerful and rich are necessary in many democratic countries to get there; just think how much is spent on an election campaign. There is nothing about honesty, nothing about kindness or compassion. Money is pushed to be top life value for all.
We need money, we teach children they need money, we have to buy, and buy and buy some more. We work, to spend money, to satisfy desires that we are made believe are perks because we work hard. As someone wrote, we work half of our life to earn money and spend the second half repairing our health. Our leaders around the world work towards a common goal; keeping populations busy working. Nothing is taught about wanting less, shaping oneself to become kind, balanced and compassionate.
Of course we cannot all have the same salary, but people are taught to have the same desire so in the end, if you cannot earn it you steal it. As everything has to do with money, if the person at the top is not corrupt; the scaffolding allowing democracy to happen is corrupt.
I am not a communist, I wrote it many times, because when reading above, one might think that I am a red scarf.
I see the need of the People, they know democracy is the best choice; still they have not been able or allowed to keep it out of corruption.
Leaders of tomorrow will come from the people choice, but they will not buy their way around. There will be new ways to choose them and form leadership councils that will be transparent and scaffold on different values. We see it around the world, regardless of religions; populations need mindful and compassionate leaders. The world need leaders who will role model and inspire people to follow new values “being good”, “being mindful” and “being content”. Because in the systems of tomorrow, people will not need to work 40 hours a week, they will have a balanced life.
I will wrap it up by adding that in 2013 we live in the anesthesia world. People need pills, alcohol and other sedative to be able to get along with their life. People are less patient and more violent. Time has come for a change. Stop building underground shelters and choose governance with insight, wisdom and kindness.
I was having a class and it was one of the children’s birthday. They were all excited; there was to be a party on the coming Saturday. For fun, but with a small intention, I asked about it, wanting to know what is the interest of seven years old children in party. “ A party, wow! This is fun, what do you do when you go to a party?” There were plenty of colorful replies. Children were more than happy to feed me in.
From there I asked children: “Are parties just for children? –No, they said” And then I got lots of comments, party here and party there….The time was up and I just managed to get my next question: What do grown-ups do when they go to a party?” But then I got a unanimous answer: “They drink!”
I did not comment on that, “Okay, the time is up”, was my dismissing comment. It was a simple and very humble reply to a flagrant stereotype that our society has planted in everybody’s head all around the world.
This is what we live, what we model to children, people model it so good that it has become the normality, even for a seven years old kid. When you go to a party as a grow-up, you drink, when you receive friends you drink, and on, on, on…
I drank before, let’s called it social drinking, I did not abuse, and never got drunk at a party, but the idea was that all funny occasions had to come with a glass of wine. I stopped that ten years ago. I have to say that it took me at least 6 years to really kick the habit out and more than the habit is the social label: NO ALCOHOL=NO FUN
I think myself as a lucky one. I have been living abroad for twenty-six years. And learning from some local people, I discovered that in many occasions of partying, drinks for all were non-alcoholic refreshments. This was not related to any religious beliefs. Of course it is changing very quickly now. That is why I consider me as lucky. I join parties, I joke and have fun but I don’t drink alcohol. It is not mandatory…
You can keep your mind with the switch ON and still have FUN.
An American woman has died after being stabbed by an unknown attacker in the restroom of a high-end mall in the United Arab Emirates, police said.
Diane Therrien's insight:
What will happen once trust is gone?
Trust when you live in society is very important. We usually do not think so much about trust, we think about economic power…You don’t need to go back too long ago, half a century, when people lived in smaller settlements; there used to be good bonds of trust between people. This is true for every society. In small settlements, people know their neighbors; if someone does a bad deal; wrongdoers are caught and deal with.
In the world of today, December 2014, settlements of 10 million up are common. Bad deals often go unseen, unpunished, causing repeat. Sure enough if someone can get away with a wrongdoing, and gain some profit; he/she will do it again. Money is the most important reason for doing nearly everything.
To counter all this, the number of police officers has to be increased. Cameras CCTV have to be installed. And to make sure there is no abuse, police officers will have to wear camera too.
As crimes frequency and violence increases, governments around the world apply stronger measures to protect the innocents.
But in the end, you know; we lost “trust”. People cannot trust neighbors, strangers, etc… According to some scientific studies, (Berkeley edX; Course Science of Happiness) the lack of trust is dangerous; it isolates people of all ages and races in smaller social circles with less interactions, and it generates the “un-trust” of strangers.
Where will all this bring the world we are living in? Well I am not a bird of prophecy but I can see social interactions evolving very fast up to the point that starting in November 2014 people have to face attacks at random.
Years and years of planting seeds of economic success will not bright you a sweet harvest. You might be rich, but are you safe? Are your children safe in this world that comes more intolerant by the minute, in UAE today, in USA last week, etc...
There are solutions, there are things that could be done, but I am sorry to say we live in world where blinds lead blinds.
As for me, I keep writing children’s books, spreading ways of developing awareness and compassion for your chidren. But is it fun to live in a world where half of the people is watching the other half? Rules of governance and social etics have to ne changed to fit the social needs of our time. We do not deal with small villages anymore. We deal with millions of individuals, stressed by having to earn a living and who deal with strangers , having economic success in mind. Think of all these ingredients we have put together in the cauldron....what kind of stew are we cooking?
How do you call two grownups working and a child? A family? I don’t know who is madder: me or the world? We used to learn that communism was not the best system to live in; one of the reasons was that it destroys family values. Then what about the parents of 2014 who hurry to make kids and hurry to put them in school at the age of 18 months so they can go back to work?
Are we so blind by the frenzies of the world we are living in to see what we are doing to our children? Have we ever thought how it may feel to be dumped into a bunch of strangers to make you socialize?
Have we lost our mind? And heart? We all know that children learn by copying, the mirror neuron studies are no more mysteries, and what do you think a group of twenty toddlers are copying?
It is a bit of a joke, a bitter one though, to consider that the world is now practicing openly what is dark history… Even Mao would laugh!
I might sound sarcastic, but I pity this generation of children who at the age of three know their classmates more than their parents. Kamon Diane
There are no miracles…Who can be trusted that their thoughts, words and actions will not change when nobody is looking at them. I think people are blinding themselves; if honesty and respect are not a top value thaught and implemented in a society then, sorry it cannot be honest, cannot be compassionate and cannot be many other positive values. In brief if you think you can cheat when nobody is looking, so do the people in charge of the system you are living in; they are not worse or better than you are, they are people…
People blind themselves with democracy; are we sincerely hoping that leaders can be more honest than we actually are? How are the chances that is we would have access to such power and wealth we would not take a bit here and a bit there? Be honest with yourself and if there would be billions of dollars managed by you and your staff; would you really never take a dime because this dime comes from tax payers? See it starts with a dime…
I am being judgmental but the reality is that everything cost money; making it very difficult for the heart not to get corrupted even a little bit. I am writing just a few lines, being a children’s book author, I use simple terms. But give what I wrote a thought…Governing systems are people’s inventions. It is great time that we put money back where it belongs: a trading tool. Money is important I recognize that but it does corrupt thoughts, words and actions when coming in pair with power.
If we do not want to live in societies that have become numbed to social degradations; rape, stealing, murder etc… We see these on the TV that it becomes normal. In fact, instead stopping bad deals to happen by seeing; it gives others the idea how to improve the act.
We better come back to the thinking table sit together and start reshaping the world. We don’t need to start from zero, we have a history behind. It is not easy but the world is full of clever people with a balanced E.Q. and not so thirsty for power that would if they could join in, make the difference.
Thai people are marching right now in the street of Bangkok with their leader Uncle Suthep Thaughsuban. People have taken leave from their work to join the reform anti-corruption march. Today's march ...
Diane Therrien's insight:
There is no information or report about the so called Rebel side on the local Thai channels. The only way to follow up with what is happening in Thailand is to listen to the satellite channel Blue Sky. Thai protest for reform before election has been going on for more than two months now. The vast movement with marches attracts not hundreds of thousands like some Medias have reported but millions of people. Why, it is very simple, Thai know that if there is another election the traditional winner will buy their way around again and will control the country piling up money as it has been for the last ten years. Farmers in the country have not been paid yet the government saying that there is no money, but at the same time starting impressive road projects. People have enough, enough of getting robbed. Hearing the people talking for the Reform every night on Blue Sky, I came to understand many facts. Thai protest are non-violent, no drugs, no alcohol, just people marching with their heart; people understanding that having elected a businessman as a leader many years ago was a mistake. A businessman is not there to teach people to be compassionate. Thai people understand that; they are ready to lose time and money and clean the political system with a reform of the constitution before any election is to take place. Kamon Diane
Back in May, we posted about improving feedback with an app for Google Drive called Voice Comments. Since its release, this useful tool has helped educators provide more personalized and meaningful feedback to students in their Google Documents.
"Google Drive is one of the best cloud storage services available online . Beside its being free to use, it also offers 15 GB of free storage capacity with the possibility of buying more. Apart from storing your files in the cloud and being able to access them from any computer or hand-held device, Google Drive is a strong productivity suite with services that allow users to create forms, documents, spreadsheets, and drawings. users can collaborate, edit, and work on these documents synchronously.Given its huge potential in education, Educational Technology and Mobile Learning has devoted an entire section to everything teachers and educators need to know to tap into this educational potential. Check it out HERE for more resources."
Google drive really helps to shorten your working day. It cuts down the number of email you have to send. I keeps everything in memory so accessible from any time any where...And what is most important for many of us, might save you from the frequent: "I lost my portable hard drive"
