Monica Lewinsky - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Monica Samille Lewinsky (born July 23, 1973) is an American woman with whom United States President Bill Clinton admitted to having had an "improper relationship"[1] while she worked at the White House in 1995 and 1996. The affair and its repercussions (which included Clinton's impeachment) became known as the Lewinsky scandal.

Monica Samille Lewinsky[2] was born in San Francisco, California, and grew up in an affluent family in Southern California in the Westside Brentwood area of Los Angeles and in Beverly Hills.[3][4][5] Her father is Bernard Lewinsky, an oncologist, who is the son of German Jews who escaped Nazi Germany and emigrated to El Salvador and later the United States.[3][6] Her mother, born Marcia Kaye Vilensky, the daughter of a Lithuanian Jewish father and a Russian-Romanian Jewish mother;[7][8] is an author who uses the name Marcia Lewis.[6] Monica's parents' acrimonious separation and divorce during 1987 and 1988 had a significant effect on her.[3][9] (Her father later married his wife, Barbara;[5] her mother later married R. Peter Straus, a media executive and former director of the Voice of America under President Jimmy Carter.[10])

The family attended Sinai Temple in Los Angeles and Monica attended Sinai Akiba Academy, its religious school.[5] For her primary education she attended the John Thomas Dye School in Bel-Air.[11] She then attended Beverly Hills High School, but for her senior year transferred to, and graduated from, Bel Air Prep (later known as Pacific Hills School) in 1991.[3][4]

King Arthur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

King Arthur is a legendary British leader of the late 5th and early 6th centuries, who, according to medieval histories and romances, led the defence of Britain against Saxon invaders in the early 6th century. The details of Arthur's story are mainly composed of folklore and literary invention, and his historical existence is debated and disputed by modern historians.[2] The sparse historical background of Arthur is gleaned from various sources, including the Annales Cambriae, the Historia Brittonum, and the writings of Gildas. Arthur's name also occurs in early poetic sources such as Y Gododdin.[3]

The legendary Arthur developed as a figure of international interest largely through the popularity of Geoffrey of Monmouth's fanciful and imaginative 12th-century Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain).[4] Some Welsh and Breton tales and poems relating the story of Arthur date from earlier than this work; in these works, Arthur appears either as a great warrior defending Britain from human and supernatural enemies or as a magical figure of folklore, sometimes associated with the Welsh Otherworld, Annwn.[5] How much of Geoffrey's Historia (completed in 1138) was adapted from such earlier sources, rather than invented by Geoffrey himself, is unknown.

Although the themes, events and characters of the Arthurian legend varied widely from text to text, and there is no one canonical version, Geoffrey's version of events often served as the starting point for later stories. Geoffrey depicted Arthur as a king of Britain who defeated the Saxons and established an empire over Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Norway and Gaul. Many elements and incidents that are now an integral part of the Arthurian story appear in Geoffrey's Historia, including Arthur's father Uther Pendragon, the wizard Merlin, Arthur's wife Guinevere, the sword Excalibur, Arthur's conception at Tintagel, his final battle against Mordred at Camlann and final rest in Avalon. The 12th-century French writer Chrétien de Troyes, who added Lancelot and the Holy Grail to the story, began the genre of Arthurian romance that became a significant strand of medieval literature. In these French stories, the narrative focus often shifts from King Arthur himself to other characters, such as various Knights of the Round Table. Arthurian literature thrived during the Middle Ages but waned in the centuries that followed until it experienced a major resurgence in the 19th century. In the 21st century, the legend lives on, not only in literature but also in adaptations for theatre, film, television, comics and other media.

Emily's insight:

A man thinks his best friend likes the same girl as him.

In a bunch of King Authur legends, Lancelot's totally in love with Guinevere and has an affair with her, but she's King Authur's wife.

This is not funny, how is it funny. This is just terrible for every person involved. See: Lancelot goes crazy, kills all of his OTHER best friend's family, and then he died AHAHAHAHAHAHA HILARIOUS ISN'T IT.

Directed by Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman, Steve Purcell. With Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters. Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom.
Emily's insight:

A woman is told by her father that she must marry someone.

Merida's dad arranged 3 dudes from other clans to compete and the winner will marry her. Merida is not happy and runs away.

This is not funny unless the two people being married are clowns and/or t-rexes. I doubt anyone has made a movie out of that.
