Google+ Approaches 18 Million Users [REPORT] - Mashable

Google+ Approaches 18 Million Users [REPORT] - Mashable | The Google+ Project | Scoop.it
Google+ continues to set records as the fastest-growing social network in history, but Google’s social juggernaut is beginning to show signs that it’s losing steam.
Ancestry.com co-founder Paul Allen posted his most recent analysis of Google+’s growth on his Google+ account Tuesday. According to his analysis, the search giant’s Facebook competitor will likely reach 18 million users by the end of Tuesday, but its growth rate has dropped by 50% from its peak.

Twitter: 1 Billion Items Delivered A Day Is Nice, Google+. We Do 350 Billion. - TechCrunch

Twitter: 1 Billion Items Delivered A Day Is Nice, Google+. We Do 350 Billion. - TechCrunch | The Google+ Project | Scoop.it
Yesterday, Google CEO Larry Page dropped some big Google+ numbers during his opening remarks for Google’s earnings call. The biggest one sounded like Google+’s 10 million users were already sharing 1 billion items per day. That sounds insane for a network that is only a couple of weeks old and isn’t yet fully public. But it’s also a bit confusing. What exactly does that mean? And how do we put that into context?

Today, exactly 5 years to the day since they launched, Twitter adds the context. Google+ may be serving up 1 billion items a day, but Twitter is doing 350 billion items a day.

Google+ Estimated To Surge Past 10 Million Users (Chart) - TechCrunch

Google+ Estimated To Surge Past 10 Million Users (Chart) - TechCrunch | The Google+ Project | Scoop.it
It’s only been two weeks since the launch of Google+ , but already there are “millions” of users, according to chairman Eric Schmidt. Beyond that ballpark figure, Google has not disclosed any user or usage numbers.

But Ancestry.com founder Paul Allen has been publishing his own estimates of the growth of Google+ (on Google+ itself). His latest estimate is that Google+ will surpass 10 million users today, only two weeks after its launch. That estimate is up from 4.5 million on July 9 and 1.7 million on July 4. I’ve charted the growth above, with Allen’s numbers.

Are There Already Half As Many Users On Two-Week Old Google+ As There Are On Twitter? - AllTwitter

Are There Already Half As Many Users On Two-Week Old Google+ As There Are On Twitter? - AllTwitter | The Google+ Project | Scoop.it
According to some preliminary estimates, Google+ membership will explode past 10 million sometime today.

That’s 10 million users who’ve signed up in just two weeks.

Now, Twitter touts the fact that it has well over 200 million (and probably more than 300 million) registered users, but in terms of active users, like most of the new signups for Google+ undoubtedly are, the number is likely much less. Think about 10x less… meaning Google+ may have amassed about half of Twitter’s user base in only two weeks.

Google+ Census: How Many are Really Online? Paul Allen estimates 4,7 million in the U.S.

Google+ Census: How Many are Really Online? Paul Allen estimates 4,7 million in the U.S. | The Google+ Project | Scoop.it
Several calculations put the population of Google+ into the millions, even with a restricted test pool.
On Saturday Paul Allen announced via Google+ that he is investigating how many users the new service has using a model Census data on how many people live in the U.S. with each surname. He estimates there are around 4.7 million Google+ users in the U.S. He said that number is up from 1.7 million he calculated earlier in the week.

He admits there are some shortfalls to his method when trying to calculate non-U.S. users, but he stands behind his work.

How Google+ Affected Social Shares and +1 Adoption Rates

How Google+ Affected Social Shares and +1 Adoption Rates | The Google+ Project | Scoop.it
With the launch of Google+, the social sharing landscape has changed. How will the launch of Plus affect where people share information and how?

I'd recommend that if you have an SEO site, it should have a +1 button. Even if +1s do not count for rankings at this point, they are displayed in the SERPs and therefore probably help with click-through rates. If +1s are used for rankings in the future, which I am not convinced of but still remains a possibility, then you will be one step ahead of the curve. Also, if you or a client has a site in one of these niches, you should probably have a +1 button on your site:

Technology
Opinion (Political or other)
Celebrity gossip

Zuckerberg and Google management drop off Google+ top 100 list - TNW Google

Zuckerberg and Google management drop off Google+ top 100 list - TNW Google | The Google+ Project | Scoop.it
Top Google employees who have amassed many followers on the company’s social networking site, Google+, have disappeared overnight from the top 100 users list at SocialStatistics.com.

It seems that the data on who these users are following and who is following them have disappeared from their profiles, which could point to a number of theories — from experiments with privacy features to a new company policy for Googlers on the network designed to curb the popularity contest.

But it doesn’t seem to stop at Google employees. Mark Zuckerberg, who previously held the #1 spot on the network, has also disappeared from the list after changing his privacy settings to stop showing his friends and followers.

Study: Google+ population explodes to 10 million | The Google+ Project | Scoop.it
Google+ appears to be in the midst of a population explosion.

A statistical analysis by Paul Allen, founder of Ancestry.com and chief executive of Facebook app maker FamilyLink.com, concludes that the Google+ population reached 7.3 million on Sunday, July 10, and likely will reach 10 million today.
And if Google keeps the Google+ invitation button active, as it has since Sunday, Allen expects Google+ to reach 20 million users by this weekend, he said in a Google+ post late Monday night.
