Dan Gillmor: Are enthusiastic users of social networking sites giving up too much control?

Control, ownership and value are inextricably linked, but having one does not necessarily boost another. Exposure on a site you don't control may be worth more to you than lack of attention on a site you do. And you may find the social and professional connections you make and enjoy on third-party sites so useful that they're worth what you are giving up. But it's worth weighing the tradeoffs.

Developers from (or at least sympathetic to) the hacker collective Anonymous are promising to create their own social network, after Google+ blocked the group's profile.
So far, AnonPlus consists of nothing more than a placeholder page proclaiming great things to come and an associated discussion forum for developers to discuss user interface concepts and other ideas for the service.

It appears not everyone shares in the enthusiasm for Google+ with web hackivists Anonymous who have allegedly been banned from Google's attempt at building a social networking service.
They now say they are setting up their own rival service named Anon+. Google decided to oust youranonnews from Google+ over what it said was content it found objectionable.
