For Roger Mahony, clergy abuse cases were a threat to agenda

For Roger Mahony, clergy abuse cases were a threat to agenda | The Global Village | Scoop.it
From the start of his tenure as the leader of L.A.'s Catholics, Roger Mahony had ambitious plans for the archdiocese. But clergy molestation claims were vying for his attention.
Kevin Friery's insight:

Detective Gary Lyon on the Catholic Church response to child molestation: "They lied as bad as any thug or ex-con I've ever come across on the street," Lyon recalled in an interview. "They were more interested in saving the reputation of the church than helping us find these young victims."

Why scarcity leads to bad decisions

Why scarcity leads to bad decisions | The Global Village | Scoop.it
Poor people are disproportionately likely to make bad decisions, such as taking out loans they cannot repay, eating unhealthfully and dropping out of class. It is sometimes said that such people are authors of their own misfortune.
Kevin Friery's insight:

Interesting take on scarcity and decision-making, with some intriguing research findings..

Kevin Friery's insight:

I post this because there is so much nonsense and bitterness on the internet and in society at large about people and their gender.  This woman writes with personal insight and a degree of frankness that is at times shockiing and chilling and at times humorous and cute.  Very hard to understand why she would have haters.

Warning - The Daily Fail Can Make Your Blood Boil | The Global Village | Scoop.it

Only read this crap if you feel you must

Kevin Friery's insight:

The Daily Fail describes Jack Monroe as a "Left-wing blogger who quit job to live on benefits"  They then, more accurately, state that she quit her job to look raise her son.  They seem to equate 'photogenic' as "unentitled to comment".  A disgraceful piece of 'journalism' from a paper that lives in fear of regulation.

Sainsbury's sorry for baby remarks

Sainsbury's sorry for baby remarks | The Global Village | Scoop.it
Kevin Friery's insight:

To be fair, Sainsbury's responded very quickly to this - it was the behaviour of an individual, not of the company.  On the flip side, a company is responsible in law for the actions of its employees even if they are against company policy.  The saddest thing is we live in a country where some people feel entitled to make such objectionable remarks.
