how Millennials can connect with an older boss

how Millennials can connect with an older boss | The Generation Gap | Scoop.it
Sure, Gen-X and Baby Boomer bosses should figure out how to work better with the Millennials they supervise, but isn’t the reverse also true? Authors Mark Kaplan and Mason Donovan explain how 20-somethings can bridge the generational divide.

Generational differences can impact engagement on both sides. Being able to work across differences, whether they are generational, gender, ethnic or otherwise is a requirement for today’s global and diverse competitive environment. An approach that leverages diversity via inclusion can create what we call the inclusion dividend. Companies invest an extraordinary amount of capital in people. An inclusive climate allows for a return on that investment. The result is an advantage over the competition. If your company doesn’t get that advantage, there is absolutely no doubt the competition will.

Forgotten story about college sports, civil rights

Forgotten story about college sports, civil rights | The Generation Gap | Scoop.it

When Division I college athletics is the topic at hand, the University of San Francisco Dons are rarely mentioned.

Instead, one is likely to watch or read about the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, the UCLA Bruins, the University of Connecticut Huskies, and other headline grabbers. However, there was a time when such was not the case.

Some call it the “best college football team you never heard of.” I am talking about the University of San Francisco/USF 1951 team, a gifted bunch that went 9-0.

To give you an idea of just how good the 1951 Dons were, eight members of the team went on to play in the National Football League. Three of those eight  would be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame/ Both running back Ollie Matson and defensive end Gino Marchetti were inducted in 1972 (first year of eligibility), and offensive tackle Bob St. Clair was inducted in 1990.

However, the player many consider the most talented off the 1951 Dons’ team was Burl Toler, who never played a single game of professional football. Toler, a linebacker, was seriously injured in the 1952 All-Star Game, which pitted college all-stars against the reigning champion pro team. The injury ended Toler’s playing career.

Millennials Hate Competition, Love Recognition and Aren’t as Revolutionary as They Think

Millennials Hate Competition, Love Recognition and Aren’t as Revolutionary as They Think | The Generation Gap | Scoop.it

Now that I’m not the CEO of Brazen Careerist, I don’t have to be the national cheerleader for Generation Y. I fantasized about this moment for years: the moment when I’d write the post titled, 10 Things I Hate about Generation Y.

But it’s hard to hate people you hang out with all the time, and the truth is, I’ve spent the last ten years being a Gen Xer surrounded by Gen Yers. The pinnacle, I thought, was me spending my days fighting with Ryan Healy about work. But in fact, it turns out the pinnacle of my education on Gen Y is my arguments with Melissa about her peers that end in snippy impasse.

Sometimes, I think Gen Y is lame and she won’t admit to it.
