If our media was still an inward, analogue society of public service networks, Breaking Bad could never have been made, let alone exploited to global success and acclaim. Scandinavian dramas such as The Killing and The Bridge would never have become international hits, or remade across other borders.

But before the game maker could deploy the black-ops protagonist of its hit "Splinter Cell" videogames into other media platforms like novels, television and film, it needed the help of Starlight Runner Entertainment."

All The World’s A Story I Pamela Rutledge | Psychology Today | FutureMedia | Scoop.it

Transmedia storytelling is rapidly becoming the new 'must have' in marketing and entertainment. Its adoption is slowed, however, by the confusion over what exactly it is. Like most things, there are lots of definitions, but with transmedia storytelling, it's easy to be distracted by the promise of the wide array of tools and get caught up in the romance of 'building out a storyworld,' - and end up overlooking the substance. Good transmedia storytelling starts with the story...

So, an almost overwhelming week at Storyworld in San Francisco is over, jet lag is slowly fading, the heaps of work await and it’s time to take stock of what was learned during the conference. Integrated Transmedia Marketing is not a dirty 'form' :) Transmedia Approach 101 ht @sioflynn

Integrated Transmedia Marketing is not a dirty 'form' :) Transmedia Approach 101 ht @sioflynn | FutureMedia | Scoop.it
Today, 'Integrated Marketing' is defined as a multi-channel plan using the same message across all channels. What we know now is that one size does not fit all! The same message or conversation doesn’t work in all media channels. We know customers behave and consume media differently in each channel and therefore often impressions are wasted.

All brands have a story to sell
While I create television spots, banner ads, mobile apps and websites, I do not believe that individually they can convey a brand’s story or experience. Nor should we be attempting to try and shove years of innovation into 30 seconds. It’s plain silly. In this Post Digital economy, we have the tools, data and know-how to create smarter marketing and engaging brand stories.

"Why So Serious 2" :) ? 'The Dark Knight Rises' Franchise Transmedia Begins - iamROGUE.com

"Why So Serious 2" :) ? 'The Dark Knight Rises' Franchise Transmedia Begins - iamROGUE.com | FutureMedia | Scoop.it

At this point, Warner Bros could probably take it easy on marketing The Dark Knight Rises. Anticipation for the film is already such that the campaign could consist exclusively of sandwich boards on vagrants and the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy would still earn a kajillion dollars on opening day. Nonetheless, its predecessor The Dark Knight was masterfully marketed, so the this sequel's marketing is guaranteed to hit the same basic beats. That 2008 effort incorporated an elaborate viral component which, up until now, has not been so directly repeated for The Dark Knight Rises, but that would appear to have changed today. Yep, the viral game is afoot, Bat fans.

Transmedia has been a buzzword for several MIP shows now, as the idea of telling stories that span different devices and platforms catches on among TV producers, broadcasters and web/app developers. The age group that is arguably most open to transmedia storytelling is teenagers: they have grown up with the internet and a variety of devices.
