Matt Acutt's insight:

This video shows a possible path for gaming in the future, with the games providing the player with extra sensory and environment based information through the use of a projection around the screen which the game is being played on. This would allow games which rely on environmental information, specifically, to flourish and become more diverse because the player would, without any effort of their own, be more aware of their surroundings.

Matt Acutt's insight:

Although an interesting concept it is in an extremely developmental stage and thus is impractical at this point. In the video you can see it malfunctions several times and misreads the input, which is one of several things that should be worked on before any sort of commercial implementation.

Matt Acutt's insight:

A unique insight into video-gaming on touch screen devices, this video makes some astoundingly relevant points. Most prominent is the suggestion that the reason touch screen gaming has been slow to take off is that developers have, for the most part, been attempting to adapt current games to the touch screen platform, which is a mistake. Touch screen gaming offers a new variety of control options and eliminates a lot of the older ones, which means that the games designed for these devices must be revolutionary in their controls. In my opinion, a good touch screen game would make use of the unique motion sensors in the device which enable it to detect when it is being tilted and in which direction, as well as the location-based multi-touch capabilities. A game which embraces its platform will always be more successful than one which does not.

Matt Acutt's insight:

This video demonstrates a combination of next-level technologies to create a truly immersive environment which takes the steps toward virtual reality provided by the Oculus Rift, and combines them with the Omni to provide a new experience for gamers. This, of course, can also be complemented by the addition of the delta 6 to further the experience. In the end it may not be a single technology that is the future of gaming - it may be a combination of technologies to form a smooth and coherent, interactive and immersive gaming experience.

Matt Acutt's insight:

This is, in my opinion, a ridiculously misconstrued collection of facts amalgamated in an attempt to promote a particular product. Although the facts themselves are accurate the way they are being analysed and represented are anything but. For instance the evaluation of the resolution differences between tablets and console gaming is misleading because a tablet has a much smaller working area and thus can display a clearer picture, while an xbox (using a TV as its video output) could use the same number of pixels overall but look considerably worse. This means that tablets have to work less to produce the same result due to the nature of the device, which invalidates the comparison criteria. Additionally, the sales of tablet devices, especially those used for gaming, are not indicative of an overall gaming direction as it is unrealistic to assume that the target audience is the same as the one for consoles. Console gamers are more dedicated and of an entirely different mindset to tablet gamers - tablet gamers are often those who want to fill in the gaps in their schedule with quick and easy games whereas console gamers see gaming as more of a hobby and thus spend more time and money on the pursuit of gaming overall.

Matt Acutt's insight:

Virtual Reality gaming is getting closer! Although this technology is still in development, and the concept is not the same as the traditional idea of virtual reality, the Oculus Rift is a huge step forward in the gaming world. I expect this technology to provide a doorway into the next level of gaming and revolutionise the term itself. The Oculus Rift takes the idea of motion tracking and transforms it into an experience centred around the player's viewpoint.
