The voice of OHS is being reduced to a squeak

The voice of OHS is being reduced to a squeak | The Future and Current Status of OHS Globally | Scoop.it
The decline of trade union influence in Australia, as membership remains low, has the sad effect of also seeing a reduced voice for some core elements of occupational health and safety (OHS) such a...
Dhane Halverson's insight:

This is an interesting article about the weakening of unions within Australia and the expected carry on effect onto OHS standards.

Hopefully this expectation will not come to be true else wise much effort will have to be taken to maintain the high OHS standards that are enjoyed within Australia today.

The institutions within the government targeted towards control over OHS should maintain the current standards but unfortunately there is no guarantee.

New air safety measure could save lives, South Aussie inventor says

New air safety measure could save lives, South Aussie inventor says | The Future and Current Status of OHS Globally | Scoop.it
A simple safety invention developed by a South Australian pilot could help combat a common cause of air crashes, an aviation industry expert believes.
Dhane Halverson's insight:

Now this looks amazing, an overlay over the cockpit screen to show the horizon even in low and no visibility situations. If this works  entirely as desired, it will save lives.

Hopefully this technology will become easily available soon.

Jim Cash's curator insight, July 18, 2014 3:43 AM

This idea is brilliant! This technology could drastically reduce the number of accidents and fatalities involved with aviation. This feature all but removes the chance of an accident due to pilot disorientation.

FAA Seeks Comments on Movie/TV UAS Exemptions -- Occupational Health & Safety

FAA Seeks Comments on Movie/TV UAS Exemptions -- Occupational Health & Safety | The Future and Current Status of OHS Globally | Scoop.it
The agency wants public comments on the possibility of making exemptions for commercial UAS movie and TV production.
Dhane Halverson's insight:

The commercial use of aerial drones isn't a new idea but it will be interesting to observe the safety hazards that will occur with their use and the precautions that will be taken to avoid injury.

It shouldn't be long before these safety concerns are met and a much larger use of drones commercial will become viable.

Dhane Halverson's insight:

A very interesting and intensive investigation into the effects and relations of OHS and the unions as well as their effect economically.

Anyone wishing to get a greater understanding of the topic should give it a good read through.

Standards Reformed After Pink Batts Fiasco | OHS News | The Future and Current Status of OHS Globally | Scoop.it
Dhane Halverson's insight:

Though it has taken more than long enough to happen it is good to see that the political side of this argument hasn't completely overshadowed the actual OHS issues that allowed these unfortunate deaths to occur.

Hopefully the changes that are coming will actually deal with the issues at hand; that being the employment of individuals incapable of safely completing the job likely due to lack of adequate training.

Speech - Global Aviation Safety | The Future and Current Status of OHS Globally | Scoop.it
European Aviation Safety Conference (EASA) Thank you for the introduction – it is good to be here today at this conference on global aviation safety....
Dhane Halverson's insight:

It is wonderful to see the global cooperation in relation to Aviation safety. Without this kind of cooperation there would be far more deaths and destruction associated with flight.

It is quite certain that this cooperation will continue on into the future though there is still further to go.

Drones: Next big thing in aviation is small

Drones: Next big thing in aviation is small | The Future and Current Status of OHS Globally | Scoop.it
What's got aviation geeks salivating at Farnborough, this year's biggest aviation jamboree that features participants from 40 countries, are the commercial possibilities of unmanned aerial vehicles -- drones to most of us
Dhane Halverson's insight:

More suggestions at a future filled with UAV drones, it seems as though the safety concerns are being properly and intensely investigated. This careful analysis should prevent any early on disasters preventing the technology from growing into the future.

EU-OSHA launches effort to tackle workplace stress - MySafetySign Blog

EU-OSHA launches effort to tackle workplace stress - MySafetySign Blog | The Future and Current Status of OHS Globally | Scoop.it
EU-OSHA has launched a two-year campaign to address the problem of workplace stress, which has been noted as a growing concern by recent industry surveys.
Dhane Halverson's insight:

It is good to see that there are organisations in the world proactively transforming OHS into what workers need it to be.

Stress is an important aspect of OHS and these changes will hopefully prove a positive change in the parts of the world that it effects. Hopefully changes like this will continue globally to help form a safer future for everyone in the workplace.
