Redding Homeless Blog: Bethel Church and Redding Police Join Forces to Destroy Homeless Camps

Redding Homeless Blog: Bethel Church and Redding Police Join Forces to Destroy Homeless Camps | The Financial Activist | Scoop.it

Redding Olympic hopeful Ryan Hall's Bethel Church and Redding California Police join forces to destroy homeless camps, "cut high grass and low hanging branches" to drive them out of hiding.

Please listen to the Redding California police chief on KCNR Radio (starting about 1:10 minutes in)...about Bethel church, homeless encampments, and their civil and constitutional rights.

It is shocking.

Shocking for the fact that a huge Christian Church is joining forces to help destroy homeless camp areas that they find refuge in. Why are we seeing so many homeless in the downtown area? because this new police chief Robert Paoletti from Stockton has no compassion for the homeless and is forcing them out of their camps and into the streets, with many reports of their survival and personal possesions illegally thrown away.. If every city in California took his approach, where would the homeless go?

Listen to Interview on the link!!

Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts? Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?"

James Chapter 2

Please Call Bethel Church and register your complaint today !! (530) 246-6000

UPDATE - 7/18/2012 - I just received a return call about my complaint from a representative of Bethel Church saying that to join forces with Redding police and destroy homeless camps, "cut high grass and low hanging branches" to drive them out of hiding is "doing their civic duty".

What happened to their duty to Christ ?

With a Homeless shelter crisis here in California I am curious why media folks dont find this attack against humanity by a huge christian church newsworthy ??

Solutions: Learned helplessness: The war on you

Solutions: Learned helplessness: The war on you | The Financial Activist | Scoop.it

BrasscheckTV.com

Learned helplessness is a technical term that refers to the condition of a human or animal that has learned to behave helplessly, failing to respond even though there are opportunities for it to help itself by avoiding unpleasant circumstances or by gaining positive rewards. Learned helplessness theory is the view that clinical depression and related mental illnesses may result from a perceived absence of control over the outcome of a situation. Organisms which have been ineffective and less sensitive in determining the consequences of their behavior are defined as having acquired learned helplessness.

Experiment Summary

In the learned helplessness experiment an animal is repeatedly hurt by an adverse stimulus which it cannot escape.   [More on the link w/the video .. excellent stuff to know and pass on ... ]

The Six Walton Heirs Are Worth More Than the Bottom 48 Million Families Combined

The Six Walton Heirs Are Worth More Than the Bottom 48 Million Families Combined | The Financial Activist | Scoop.it

The Economic Policy Institute writes HERE:

And in 2010, as the Walton’s wealth has risen and most other Americans’ wealth declined, it is now the case that the Walton family wealth is as large as the bottom 48.8 million families in the wealth distribution (constituting 41.5 percent of all American families) combined.

It’s hardly a surprise that the economic circumstances of the Walton family and that of most Americans are moving in opposite directions, but some have attempted to quibble with the use of this particular statistic by noting that nearly 13 million American families have negative net worth—meaning that they have outstanding debts greater than the value of their assets. This is a bit of a strange objection—of course, many American families have negative net worth, but this is an economic reality, not a statistical fluke.

Pew Research says that by 2 to 1 – Americans believe raising taxes on the rich will HELP the economy HERE:

By two-to-one (44% to 22%), the public says that raising taxes on incomes above $250,00o would help the economy rather than hurt it, while 24% say this would not make a difference. Moreover, an identical percentage (44%) says a tax increase on higher incomes would make the tax system more fair, while just 21% say it would make the system less fair.

Leetsdale Resident Launches Petition to Protect Neighborhood

Leetsdale Resident Launches Petition to Protect Neighborhood | The Financial Activist | Scoop.it
The petition opposes Quaker Valley School District plans to tear down three homes for a student drop off and parking lot.

MARY ELLEN PERSUIT

A Leetsdale resident launched an online petition drive Monday against school district plans to purchase and demolish borough homes in the name of student safety.

"Help us save our neighborhood and stop this unnecessary spending of our Quaker Valley tax dollars," Leetsdale resident Sandra Ford urged potential supporters.

As of Monday night, the "Save Leetsdale" petition that Ford created had gathered six signatures from residents in Leetsdale and Sewickley.

The petition is the latest opposition to come from Leetsdale, where residents have been vocal against the school board's plans to purchase three homes in the 700 block of Beaver Street.

Quaker Valley has purchased two properties and are in negotiations for a third for the purpose of a bus turnaround, parent drop-off zone and parking lot. School officials could not immediately be reached for comment Monday night.

According to the district's conceptual drawings, the homes would have to be torn down to make way for the project, whic intends to address limited access to the high school and students being dropped off in traffic while buses are letting off.

Those opposed to the plans say other alternatives should be explored, such as a student drop off in front of the high school.

In May, the school board authorized a traffic study to look at all options, but the results won't be ready until fall.

Say NO to political prosecution of anti-foreclosure protesters! « MN Coalition for a People's Bailout

Say NO to political prosecution of anti-foreclosure protesters! « MN Coalition for a People's Bailout | The Financial Activist | Scoop.it

We need to stand up for the right to protest!

CALL…Mayor R.T. Rybak at 612-673-2100,
Assistant City Attorney Mary Ellen Heng at 612-673-2270
City Attorney Susan Segal at 612-673-3272

Ask them why Occupy protesters are facing unusually harsh charges.

Demand that they drop ALL CHARGES on anti-foreclosure protesters

On October 20, 2011, hundreds of people participated in a demonstration in front of U.S. Bank in downtown Minneapolis to draw attention to the fact that over 25,000 Minnesotans lost their homes to foreclosure in 2010 alone.  people were arrested in the intersection in front of the bank and charged with “interfering with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.”  Seven were arrested in the intersection in front of the bank and charbged w/"interfering with pediestrian and vehicular traffic."

Four of them are scheduled to go to trial on July 30th, but on July 20th they had 3 more charges added (unlawful assembly, public nuisance and not complying with a “peace officer”)!

Nationally, the Occupy movement is facing increasing police brutality, police infiltration, and trumped up charges. Locally the Minneapolis city attorney’s office has decided to try to shut down the growing movement of people standing in solidarity with families struggling to save their homes from foreclosure by giving protesters outrageous charges.

For example, the city prosecutors have escalated charges on the 14 protesters who defended the Cruz family home on May 30th.

Prosecutors at the City Attorney’s office originally charged supporters with trespassing, but have now moved to significantly more serious charges including 3rd degree riot – a gross misdemeanor which carries a sentence of up to one year in prison and a $3,000 fine.

The city of Minneapolis is trying to scare people from standing in solidarity with people being thrown out of their own homes.

Solidarity is not a crime!

Don’t jail the movement, jail the bankers!

We, the People’s Bailout Coalition, know from our work defending the homes of Rosemary Williams and Leslie Parks that it is essential to our movement for people to be able to protest home foreclosures.

The foreclosure crisis is a central issue in the U.S. economic crisis – we cannot be scared away from this important issue and from the tactic of civil disobedience!

Spanish Protests Escalate as Budget Cuts Draw Blood « naked capitalism | The Financial Activist | Scoop.it

YVES SMITH, Naked Capitalism

It's been fashionable to dismiss protest in austerity-victim countries as noise.  And to date, that view has been correct.

But Spain lurched relatively suddenly into the acute distress of 24% unemployment. Thursday, the Spanish bank bailout terms were clarified, and as we'd thought early on, and as Delusional Economics explained, the terms have the new bank bailout debt as being added to existing Spanish borrowing levels.  Spanish bond yields rose, but Mr. Market shrugged that off all of one day.  Valencia sough assistance Friday under the rescue package approved the day beforfe.  Investors freaked out at the proof that Spain was imploding faster than they thought.
