IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, helps the world find pragmatic solutions to our most pressing environment and development challenges.
Sam Hollings's insight:

While this is not specifically an education related link, IUCN is a resource that any envorinmental educator MUST have on hand.  It's also great to encourage students to use reliable resources such as this organisation.

The Hotchkiss School - About Hotchkiss - Environmental Initiatives - Energy & Green Building - Green Buildings

Via Linda Alexander
Sam Hollings's insight:

The Hotchkiss School is a fantastic example of how schools can work to going "Green".  This school site is therefore not only a resource for teachers who might be exploring related units of work with their students, but also to be used as an example for other schools to look to in their own practices and developments.

Linda Alexander's curator insight, March 3, 2013 9:43 AM

This Hotchkiss School provides probably one of the best examples in the nation of a school truly commited to green building.  The building itself is part of the children's learning experience (as it should be).

Also: In Seattle, this organization started in 2012 is also of interest:  http://www.thesproutcollective.org/what-if.html

The Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife raises funds from public appeals, sponsorships, bequests and marketing alliances in order to grant funds to conservation projects Australia-wide.
Sam Hollings's insight:

This is an excellent teaching resource for young students learning about how they can protect their local Australian wildlife.  Once again, it's also a very reliable source as it is created by the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife Services.

Sam Hollings's insight:

An incredibly inspiring TED talk from Zoe Weil, Founder of the Institute of Humane Education.  She discusses the idea that "the world becomes what you teach", and that what we must teach in our schools is how to be "solutionaries".
For teachers this is an interesting point of conversation as to how we can change the way we approach our students' learning, and can also be used as a catalist for direct discussion in the classroom.

Via Ceci Ramirez
Sam Hollings's insight:

Talking about waste is a topic that can so easily become dry for some students, but this fantastic infographic on waste and recycling could hold the attention of all the students in the classroom.  It would be an excellent resource when looking at related units of work in science or HSIE in the older primary stages.
