Municipal engineering involves the development of a municipality, such as a city or town, and those living in it. It is one of the contributing factors to improving the quality of life of the municipality. The tasks of the municipal engineer include the management and disposal of waste materials, the water supply system, the treatment of water, the maintenance of public parks, and other responsibilities.
All of these tasks are vital to the well-being of the municipality. The management and disposal of waste, if done poorly, can be a serious threat to the health of the people living in the municipality. The water supply is self-explanatory, while its treatment assures that it safe for consumption. Lastly, the maintenance of public parks provide a safe and clean environment for the enjoyment of the people.
I think this article only partially answered the question, “What is municipal engineering?” While it thoroughly explained the tasks, even mentioning the factors that they are dependent on, they did not mention how these tasks were done. I am interested in this job because all the tasks associated with it are essential. Furthermore, it would be a good way to give back to your local community.

One of the fastest growing fields of engineering, computer engineering addresses the use of software and hardware to solve real engineering problems, including areas such as home automation, industrial robotics, and biomedical devices.
Computer engineering is much like the combination of electrical engineering and computer science because it requires expertise in electronic hardware and software design. In order to be a successful computer engineer, one must be a problem solver, able to create effective product efficiently and economically.
Some job titles you can acquire from studying in this profession would be a hardware engineer, an IT consultant, and a systems engineer or analyst. Based on an NACE report on the summer of 2011, a Bachelors degree in computer engineering can earn you a salary of $64,499 a year.
This article gave a very general view on computer engineering, even giving reasons on the phenomenal growth of the field. With a general view, however, comes a lack of details. I would have liked more career options. And being information found on the site of a specific site, it provided biased views as to how to acquire a job in this field. Overall, the profession still interests me because of its presented problems exclusive to hardware and software related solutions.

Mechanical engineering deals with the need to design and manufacture devices and systems, large and small. The main job a mechanical engineer is to produce a product out of an idea.
In order to accomplish this, a mechanical engineer needs a variety of skills and a vast web of knowledge, such as to be able to perceive the environment that the product will be in and to ensure that the product will operate without failure. An ME’s most important skill, however, would be to analyze and design things in motion.
Mechanical engineering is a rather broad topic that covers aerospace to environmental control. Simply, it deals with anything that moves. A mechanical engineer needs to learn about numerous subjects, from different materials to heat transfer. According to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, there are thirty-six technical divisions under mechanical engineering - divisions, such as advanced energy engineering and solid-waste engineering, thus giving a graduate under this major a variety career options.
I’m glad that this article gave me great insight on the diversity of mechanical engineering, giving me assurance that if I ever pursued this career, I would have a number of choices. I also appreciate the examples that this article presents.

A civil engineer designs roads, bridges, dams, buildings, and other structures. They use their knowledge to carefully construct these structures around factors such as the cost or the impact of ominous weather. Civil engineers usually manage people and projects. They may supervise construction sites or become a city engineer. Other possibilities are working in fields such as design, construction, research, and teaching.
Furthermore, within civil engineering are specialties, such as structural, construction, environment, and transportation. Civil engineers can usually be found working in places with an abundance of manufacturing and businesses. They, however, are more commonly found working at construction sites.
A college degree and a license from the State are required to start practicing. A license requires four years of work and passing the exam. People skills, creativity, and meticulousness is needed to become a good civil engineer.
I can’t complain with much of this article. It gives a complete overview of civil engineering. It’s information, however, is not that recent, dating back to 2008. Being able to use mathematics and problem solving in a job appeals to me as I like both. The idea of constructing buildings and structures from scratch offers a challenge that I am eager to jump into.

While many different types of engineers with different skills are needed to construct a project, an architectural engineers main contribution would be the designing of the project. One might think that an architectural engineers only contribution would be to draw up a plan. They, however, apply great skill to finding harmony between the aesthetics of the projects and the more realistic requirements like water systems.
Architectural engineering include sub-fields that one can specialize in such as mechanical and structural engineering. The job title doesn’t give a linear job process but rather can vary depending on the project and who is available to work with. For example, when there is an architect present the engineers job will only be to incorporate the engineering principles to the designs.
Jobs available in architectural engineering corresponds to the levels of construction. Hopefully, as the population grows, increasing demands for new structures, more positions will be available.
This article gave a clear definition of architectural engineering. It explored the sub-fields of architecture engineering and gave salary and career information. This career appeals to me in its vagueness, as I would not have to specialized in so-and-so fields like electrical or building services.
An aerospace engineer must inspect, evaluate, construct and produce parts of an aircraft, spacecraft, and high-altitude devices and systems. An aerospace engineer works in a highly coordinated team. You can usually find an aerospace engineer sitting in front of a computer in a lab assembling reports.
Many in this profession are easily frustrated as they cannot readily see their role in the final product because of its severe complexity. Furthermore, one can be pulled out of one project to work on another, which one person explains isn’t disorganization but prioritization.
The arduous path to becoming an aerospace engineer consists of rigorous courses from physics to statistics. The degrees a college can offer on this profession varies from a specific aerospace degree to a generalized engineering degree with coursework on aerospace.
Many of those who graduate in this profession relocate to where defense industry work is done, in states such as California, Washington, and Texas. These professionals, however, frequently end up teaching, in order to avoid the anonymity that the profession presents.
This article presented information in a concise and pithy manner and gave me most of what I needed under distinct headings. The article, also, helped to define the line between aerospace engineer and rocket scientist.
Structural engineering is a specialty that developed from civil engineering.Structural engineers deal with the framework of the project. A structural engineer’s main job is to ensure that the client’s project meets the suitable standards and legal codes and that it is safe. They do so by making sure that the structure of the project is strong and stable enough to hold its contents.
They design specific structures in the project such as the columns, arches, roof framing, and so on. They design these structures to have resistance against forces like earthquakes and explosions by performing calculations using complex design and analysis computer programs.
Structural engineers must be adaptive to new materials, methods, codes, etc. A structural engineer needs to have a college degree in Structural Engineering, or Civil Engineering, or Architectural Engineering. After this Professional Licensure needs to be obtained, which may take four years.
I was glad to find this article that had less “engineering jargon” as opposed to the others. This profession’s challenges is what makes it so appealing for me. I, however, would have liked to have more details on the exact process of how a structural engineer completes a project and on what exactly these “programs” are.
