Keep Europe’s culture open to everyone online l #AllezCulture | V1 eMuseums Eye | Scoop.it
To the Members of the European Council, Commission and Parliament. We ask for your support in the budget discussions about Europe’s digital infrastructure.Europeana, an EU flagship and global leader in its field, must be funded through the Telecom Guidelines of the Connecting Europe Facility, the proposed funding mechanism.  Europeana works with galleries, libraries, archives and museums in every European country to make knowledge and culture available online. We connect everyone in Europe with their shared history and heritage – 27 million books, pictures, films and recordings so far. Together, we’re pioneering new ways to engage people in culture through websites, apps, software and social media, through sharing our expertise, business models and code, and through services for education and tourism. Europe needs our innovation – there’s faster progress in the digital sector than most other areas of the economy. Supporting Europeana is supporting Europe. Europe can’t afford to lose a service that is both good for people and good for the economy. See our blog for more reasons to protect Europeana’s funding.

Museum Anniversary with New Technologies

Museum Anniversary with New Technologies | V1 eMuseums Eye | Scoop.it

The Museum of Peasant Uprisings in Gornja Stubica (Croatia) celebrated its 40th birthday with 3D mapping event called GUBEC TEATAR. It is the first multimedia mapping in Croatia that used the combined technique of animation, films and audio-visual effects on a cultural heritage monument. It made a 40-meter-long Monument of the Great Peasant Revolt alive and in an unprecedented way the real historic event has been entwined with rich rhetoric of the work of art since the author, a famous Croatian sculptor Antun Augustinčić, created his work on the literary masterpiece Ballads of Petrica Kerempuh written by Miroslav Krleža.

[Conference] Constructing sustainable visions for the Future - Museum management in times of financial crisis. | V1 eMuseums Eye | Scoop.it

4 & 5 October 2013 National Museum of Slovenia, Ljubljana

The topic of the conference is a particular concern to many of us – how can we become durable organizations with the prospect of sustainability and strength? What additional strategies can we apply to increase revenue that will make us more independent of government subsidies? These are probably never-ending questions to ask and a process of continuous change is needed. The recession can also be an opportunity: at this conference we will learn about possible solutions, how to take opportunities, what to tackle first.

This year’s theme, “Re:Making The Museum,” taps into the current trend among cultural institutions to reexamine what they do and how the community is finding new and innovative ways to accomplish their goals. From reimagining online exhibitions to rethinking digitization practice to reevaluating interaction with audiences, there are numerous ways that museums are actively remaking themselves.

The future of games in museums: what should we be doing?

The future of games in museums: what should we be doing? | V1 eMuseums Eye | Scoop.it

A confluence of related projects and talks has got me thinking about where games in museums should be going in the future. There have been some notable successes in museum games to date, and some failures. Where to go from here? Here are some assembled thoughts on the types of games and game design practices I would love to see more museums exploring.

Hélène Herniou's curator insight, October 7, 2013 6:40 AM

"The temptation is for museums is to create games that convey a lot of information (because we have so much interesting content, so it’s understandable), or that are a bit worthy. But those games are really really hard to do well, and risk turning off a lot of people. For in-gallery games, museum visitors may be time conscious, or assume it will be serious, or just want to watch, and fast, funny games could be the answer."

Summary Report of Interviews with CH stakeholders and technology providers

Summary Report of Interviews with CH stakeholders and technology providers | V1 eMuseums Eye | Scoop.it

The main aim of the eCultValue project is to encourage the use of new technologies that have the potential to revolutionise the way we are dealing with and accessing Cultural Heritage (CH) in Europe. For doing this, it is important to capture the points of view and the needs of the stakeholders working in Cultural Heritage institutions, in relation to the use of ICT. In the context of the “Interview Summary Report”, the eCultValue partners have, therefore, performed a number of interviews with CH stakeholders and technology providers from several European countries. Some of the main outcomes of this activity are presented in this report.
