Change or Die

Change or Die | DPG Online | Scoop.it
All leadership comes down to this: changing people's behavior. Why is that so damn hard? Science offers some surprising new answers -- and ways to do...
DPG plc's insight:

Fascinating to read that even in life and death situations people won't change habits or behaviour to prolong their lives. We talk about change in many different guises and sometimes like it's easy. It is not EASY however change is possible with the right support. Some real food for thought here in terms of the change we instigate, lead, influence and commit to in our own roles and organisations.

Heather Bunney's curator insight, May 2, 4:30 AM

Mastering the ability to change isn't just a crucial strategy for business. It's a necessity for health. And it's possibly the one thing that's most worth learning.

Randy Ta's curator insight, May 14, 6:37 PM

Choosing the visual article type of infograph, it is able to show plenty of things, such as traits of a highly effective mindset, or other types of data; however a downside of this type of info graph, the information on it needs to be somewhat relevant to the topic, and the info should be varied, and should at least interesting to the reader.

The strengths of this visual article type of infograph is that the color is nice and consistent, there are also little designs that correspond to the traits.

The weaknesses of this visual article is that is the layout design of it. It may benefit if it were numbered. Even though the design was good, it can be highly improved to include a different type of visual representation other than the little designs on it.

Why educating the educators is complex

Why educating the educators is complex | DPG Online | Scoop.it
Teaching is both craft and profession -- and more.

Thus teaching is a deeply social and emotional activity. You have to know your students and be able to read them quickly, and from that reading make decisions to slow down or speed up, stay with a point or return to it later, connect one student’s comment to another’s.

Simultaneously, you are assessing on the fly Susie’s silence, Pedro’s slump, Janelle’s uncharacteristic aggressiveness. Students are, to varying degrees, also learning from each other, learning all kinds of things, from how to carry oneself to how to multiply mixed numbers.

How teachers draw on this dynamic interaction varies depending on their personal style, the way they organize their rooms, and so on—but it is an ever-present part of the work they do.

DPG plc's insight:

In our expereince those who educate others and facilitate learning are great at using different tools however they must be taken on a journey that creates both confidence in using the tools and answers the WIIFM. The demands and needs of our students are changing and we need to ensure we keep up with these demands and in fact be early adopters and not laggards when it comes to change.

13 Implications for Educational institutions at the primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels, are largely the products of technology infrastructure and social circumstances of the past.

The landscape has changed and educational institutions should consider how to adapt quickly in response. Some directions of change might include:

»Placing additional emphasis on developing skills such as critical thinking, insight, and analysis capabilities

»Integrating new-media literacy into education programs

»Including experiential learning that gives prominence to soft skills—such as the ability to collaborate, work in groups, read social cues, and respond adaptively

»Broadening the learning constituency beyond teens and young adults through to adulthood

»Integrating interdisciplinary training that allows students todevelop skills and knowledge in a range of subjects
