"This award was received with particular satisfaction , for several reasons: We always believed that the quality of the architecture of this project would be determinant for it´s success- and for that reason we choosed an architect from the very famous Oporto University School. Although our main activity is the production of wines- we made a strong effort and put a lot of energy in the wine tourism activity, as we believe it is a strong competitive advantage in the very competitive global wine market. Crasto Douro White 2011

Crasto Douro White 2011 | The Douro Index | Scoop.it
In a country more famous for port and cork production, Portugal can stake claim to an area that is producing tasty, though underappreciated, wines.

Located in northern Portugal, the Douro region is the home for numerous rich reds and vibrant whites that can be a taster’s delight. A recent tasting confirmed just that.

Grapes for Quinta do Crasto Douro White 2011 are probably even less known — Gouveio, Roupeiro and Rabigato – but again have been fermented and aged in steel and turned into a bright, fresh wine with slight citrus aromas and tropical notes and excellent minerality"

Graham's 1963: 'like an obsessed ex girlfriend' Neil Martin

Graham's 1963: 'like an obsessed ex girlfriend' Neil Martin | The Douro Index | Scoop.it

An outstanding 1963 Port scoring 96/100 Parker Points.

Neil Martin of Wine Advocate : "What a stunning 1963 vintage port this is. The bouquet draws you in, does not drag you in with its alcohol and reveals a fresh, well defined nose with a nutty edge, hints of cigar box and allspice.

The palate is beautifully balanced, understated on the entry but building all the time, flashes of eucalyptus leading towards a more extrovert, clove tinged finish that hangs around the palate like an obsessed ex-girlfriend. Gorgeous Grahams!" Tasted May 2009." Neil Martin, Wine Journal

W & J GRAHAM was founded in 1820 and has an impeccable reputation as one of the leading producers of premium Port wines"...

Major Port Houses Declare 2011 Vintage | Wine Spectator

Major Port Houses Declare 2011 Vintage | Wine Spectator | The Douro Index | Scoop.it

The Douro Valley's top Port houses are declaring the 2011 vintage, making it the first generalized declaration for Vintage Port since the classic 2007 vintage. Even though 2011 was regarded as a difficult growing season in the Douro Valley, Port producers were smiling by the end of harvest. A rainy winter at the start of 2011 proved beneficial, providing deep water reserves for a long, dry spring and early summer. May and June, however, brought alarming hailstorms. “I was at the quinta during the hailstorms, and they brought tears to my eyes,” said António Agrellos, chief winemaker of Quinta do Noval. Fladgate joins 2011 declaration surge

Fladgate joins 2011 declaration surge | The Douro Index | Scoop.it

The Fladgate Partnership has joined other major houses in declaring its 2011 vintage Ports, having held off until its traditional timing of St George’s day.

All three houses within Fladgate’s portfolio – Croft, Fonseca and Taylor’s will release a 2011 vintage, as the company’s managing director Adrian Bridge hailed “textbook” styles that are “classics in every sense.”

In common with Sogrape, Symington and Churchill’s, each of whom have made declarations within the last month, Fladgate’s head winemaker David Guimaraens was emphatic in his praise of this vintage.

“The 2011s stand out for the purity of the fruit and the quality of the tannins, which are silky and well integrated but provide plenty of structure,” he summarised.
