The 7 characteristics of a digitally competent teacher

The 7 characteristics of a digitally competent teacher | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it

“Being a proper digitally competent teacher is not as simple as picking up an iPhone and tweeting. You need to be a good digital citizen, understand privacy, and more.”

Like my friend Mary Clark said (She's a great follow!)  This is a really great graphic to share with teachers at the start of school!

I'm also gonna share this on my New Teacher Survival Guide wikipage!

ISTE 2016: Top Takeaways

ISTE 2016: Top Takeaways | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it
It was nearly impossible to catch everything that happened at the annual ISTE conference, but here are the highlights from this year's show.
Via Bookmarking Librarian
GwynethJones's insight:

Sadly, I had to miss ISTE this year because I was called up for a MONTH LONG US District Court Jury Duty and wasn't allowed to leave the state of Maryland (except for the beach) for the whole flippin month! What a bummer!I'm sure it was because of a certain trial in the State of Maryland that got a lot of national attention.

So, articles like this and following the HASHTAG #ISTE2016

ASIDE: don't get me started on how continually annoyed I am at that unnecessarily long hashtag! I tried to change their minds about that whilst I was on the Board of Directors --- was a no go. I swear...[grins] SMH

ANYWAY...great wrap up of the biggest Ed Tech Event on the planet. If only they would ask ME to keynote! LOL  Though I admire

I Admire@cordym big time

I know, just jelly beans talkin!

Our Genius Problem

FAIL

FAIL | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it
I cringe every time I see this. It is a very simplistic view that I strongly believe sends the wrong message to our students. This sends the message that students should not expect success when they try something the first time. It sends the message to "just get the first try over with because you…
GwynethJones's insight:

My comment on this through-provoking post:

Thank you so much, Tammy! I agree with this so much!

"I think that when we make everything look rosy and sweet, we do a disservice to our students."

SO makes me cringe - like the "participation awards" Are we training our kiddos to have "grit" to keep trying until they get it or are we training them to be entitled humans who expect to "win" right away and get constantly lauded at every step? Kids themselves, when gaming, will keep trying until they 'level up" why don't we have confidence in them to translate that kind of persistence in academics?

And not to open another can of worms, BUT [gets out her can opener and rips into the can-o-worms with gusto] I also have problems with the term "Genius Hour" being used with abandon in education and schools of late. As a proponent of gifted education and gifted kiddos, overuse of the word genius is just right out.

Top 10 Best Free Math Resources on the Web | Edudemic

Top 10 Best Free Math Resources on the Web | Edudemic | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it
For many students, the words “math” and “fun” don’t seem to have much overlap. Math is often thought of as a dry subject – equations don’t get most people excited – but math lovers have been working to show the more interesting side of math to students in a number of different formats.

Students who find math boring  now may just need to be given a new way of looking at it. Naturally, the internet has come to the rescue with a wide range of math resources designed to help students see how math can be fun and useful.
