Taking Control Of Your Professional Development - Steven W. Anderson @web20classroom

Taking Control Of Your Professional Development - Steven W. Anderson @web20classroom | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it

"Often we talk about the need for more personalized learning for students. There are countless books, webinars and other resources dedicated to the topic. Yet when it comes to the personalization of professional development there is a barely a slow moment by educational leaders to move in that direction. Time, money and personnel are just a few of barriers they face.

The fact of the matter is educators, no matter their position, can no longer rely on their schools and districts to provide the targeted professional development every educator needs and deserves.

So, if we come to that realization, the next inevitable question is, what do we do about it?"

5-Minute Film Festival: Student Voice and Choice - @Edutopia | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it
What does it mean when people talk about "student voice and choice" in education? Educators are always thinking on how best to engage the young people we work with; perhaps one way to capture their attention is right under our noses. If students feel that that their opinions and ideas are heard and valued by their peers and teachers, they're much more likely to be engaged with their education. These 7 videos offer up strategies for giving your students more agency in their lessons and day-to-day classroom life.

3D Printing Evolves to 4D: Here’s What We Know So Far

3D Printing Evolves to 4D: Here’s What We Know So Far | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Surely you’ve heard of 3D printing, which is the printing of objects out of materials like plastic, concrete, and even steel. But did you know the technology has been around since the 1970s?

Or perhaps even more surprising is the fact that soon we will be progressing to the next stage of this technology: 4D printing.

It’s hard to believe the technology has been around that long, let alone that we’re naturally progressing to the next phase in its evolution, but it’s all true. So, what is 4D printing? And how is it different from 3D printing? We’ll break it down for you....

Need to Remember Something? Try Drawing It

Need to Remember Something? Try Drawing It | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it
“ Researchers at the University of Waterloo have found that drawing pictures of information that needs to be remembered is a strong and reliable strategy to enhance memory. “We pitted drawing against a number of other known encoding strategies, but drawing always came out on top,” said the study’s lead author, Jeffrey Wammes, PhD candidate in the Department of Psychology. “We believe that the benefit arises because drawing helps to create a more cohesive memory trace that better integrates visual, motor and semantic information.””

30 Habits Of Highly Effective Teachers

30 Habits Of Highly Effective Teachers | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it
If you ask a student what makes him or her successful in school, you probably won’t hear about some fantastic new book or video lecture series. Most likely you will hear something like, “It was all Mr. Jones. He just never gave up on me.”

What students take away from a successful education usually centers on a personal connection with a teacher who instilled passion and inspiration for their subject. It’s difficult to measure success, and in the world of academia, educators are continually re-evaluating how to quantify learning. But the first and most important question to ask is:

Are teachers reaching their students? Here are 25 things successful educators do differently.
