A scaffolder involved in Christchurch's rebuild was busted for cultivating cannabis after he was picked up on an outstanding warrant in raids yesterday.

Meanwhile thousands get tanked for Rugby match! Police activity all over Christchurch was curiously obvious. But not for mediating the weekends Irish excitement, seemingly a major problem, but to catch a dude with a plant!

MildGreen Initiative's insight:

I wonder of Nick Smith realises he is actually from Nelson?  One of this nations hot beds of cultivation and culture.

As a scientist he should be at one with the concept of 'cost/benefit' analysis, for without that "We do not think that there are any benefits for decriminalising or legalising ..." is just made up politics, no different to (IMHO) pretending two cheques are not the same as one.

No cost benefit analysis of prohibition's illicit status has EVER BEEN DONE. And that is wrong. In so many ways. But for a man of science to espouse this as good policy making is voiding the real question, WHO IS THIS SERVING?  Non-feasance anyone?

I think that this video's ideas are in theory great ideas and I also think this video is a glorified version of what is happening in Colorado since the legalization of marijuana. I actually spoke with two people today who are from Colorado and they said that there is still a black market going around because the selling of marijuana is only regulated on a state basis and not federal. They said that the weed dispensaries only accept cash and there is no banking system for this money. It'll be interesting to see how the legalization in Alaska will impact the state.
Rob Duke's comment, July 20, 2015 2:48 PM
California has legislation to allow dispensaries to open bank accounts; and, bitcoin is used in Oregon.
