Motivating People Starts with Having the Right Attitude

Motivating People Starts with Having the Right Attitude | The Daily Leadership Scoop | Scoop.it

Most leaders know what strong motivation looks like. When I ask leadership development clients to describe the type of motivation they’d like to see in their teams, they mention qualities such as persistence, being a self-starter, having a sense of accountability for and commitment to achieving results, and being willing to go the extra mile on projects or to help other team members. But many leaders have little idea of how to boost or sustain that level of motivation.

The Shockingly Simple Secret Behind Employee Motivation

The Shockingly Simple Secret Behind Employee Motivation | The Daily Leadership Scoop | Scoop.it

Here's the central law of employee motivation, of coaxing a great performance from your employees, day after day: Employees who are selected, oriented, and reinforced properly, and who are surrounded by peers of the same caliber, will thrive when given significant autonomy. Otherwise, they'll wither.

There are dozens of studies to support this, inside and outside of business life.

The case for autonomy: just look in the mirror.

I think this is a great article. While getting at the idea of motivation from the negative standpoint I think that this article has great do nots when it comes to try and motivate employees. To often bosses treat their employees like idiots which begs the question, "Why did you hire this person in the first place if you thought they were an idiot?" I think that by knowing what not to do you can easily ccatch yourself when you  realize you are projecting  these behaviors.
