Why One Kickstarter Success Story Thinks Kickstarter Might Be Unethical

Why One Kickstarter Success Story Thinks Kickstarter Might Be Unethical | The Crowdfunding Atlas | Scoop.it
"A Kickstarter will challenge your core beliefs and morals."
Anna B. Scott's insight:

It's not so much that Kickstarter or crowdfunding might be unethical, it's the relationship with money that each person has leads them to ignorant behavior and outcomes. Doing due diligence before launching a campaign is important. Not all great ideas can be realized in a "microwave moment." You'll get a chance to determine if crowdfunding is right for you in the book, The Crowdfunding Atlas.

Anna B. Scott's insight:

Surprise! The SEC rules promote hoarding, sorry, stockpiling of cash. Is this crowdfuding future sustainable?

Anna B. Scott's insight:

P2P lending may yet trump #crowdfunding as the choice of the reasonable entrepreneur. I live in a crowdfunded city--it's down right saturated market over here in LA--P2P lending looks like a more viable option for those times when the check really is in the mail, but that subcontractor could care less. One to watch! --ABS

S.E.C. Advances New JOBS Act Rule, but Not Crowdfunding

S.E.C. Advances New JOBS Act Rule, but Not Crowdfunding | The Crowdfunding Atlas | Scoop.it
The JOBS Act set the end of last year as the deadline for final rules on crowdfunding, but the S.E.C. has not yet proposed those regulations, much less completed them.
Anna B. Scott's insight:

Thank you Mandelbaum for clarifying the definition of crowdfunding. Seriously. The new rules the SEC released have precious little to do with actual crowdfunding. Let's watch those companies that tried to get out in front of "crowdvesting" pivot into investor boutiques. Small businesses, time to white label your crowdfunding campaigns. You probably don't want in with the sharks just yet. -ABS

Crowdtilt Launches Crowdhoster To Let Anyone Create And Customize Their Own Campaigns | TechCrunch

Crowdtilt Launches Crowdhoster To Let Anyone Create And Customize Their Own Campaigns | TechCrunch | The Crowdfunding Atlas | Scoop.it
Crowdtilt is today launching the first public version of Crowdhoster -- its full-featured, open-source, customizable crowdfunding tool that will allow anyone to launch their own campaign without having to touch a line of code.
Anna B. Scott's insight:

Very interesting. Will this clutter the campaign field? The beauty of the current camapaign structure is the systematic review process before you launch that is offered by the crowdfunding site itself. What will happen when that goes out the window?  Is it truly gone in this new offering?

Time to sign up and find out.

My guess is that CRM consultants just got an entirely new market. -ABS

'Dark Intellectual Property': Why We Need a Kickstarter for Patents | Wired Opinion | Wired.com

'Dark Intellectual Property': Why We Need a Kickstarter for Patents | Wired Opinion | Wired.com | The Crowdfunding Atlas | Scoop.it
You’ve heard of the “deep web" and may also have heard of “dark social,” but what you may not know about yet is “dark IP” -- the intellectual property that remains on the shelf: undiscovered, unexplored, untapped.
Anna B. Scott's insight:

Here's my question: have you experienced being part of a community of backers on Kickstarter or any other crowdfunding platform? Do you move in a swarm, or school, or mob when you vote, or are you just following the crowd?

The author assumes that the self-selection that leads to an individual "joining" Kickstarter also leads to them creating and leveraging relationships on the platform beyond their initial interest. I am not so sure that is totally true--maybe for people into getting their hands on the latest tech before it comes to market--but for everyone else, are you roaming the high seas of backing looking for a deserving whale of an idea?

Would dark IP be subject to popularity of novelty or to popularity based on intellectually engaged assessment? The questions the questions. -ABS
