Nervous System is a design studio that works at the intersection of science, art, and technology. We create using a novel process that employs computer simulation to generate designs and digital fabrication to realize products.
Biophilia : Technophilia envisions an autonomously printed scaffolding system that grows into the city creating a bionic infrastructural network of physiologically responsive interfaces and augmented atmospherics.
The formal design approach explores different ways of generating large spatial moves that are both easy to make, but also big enough to alter the fabric of the city. The ground is manipulated using inexpensive and readily available means of machinery and explosives—ones that are already in abundance due to border construction and violence in the city.
The site, SantÉlia has the notoriety for being the badlands of Cagliari. Often this image is exaggerated, contributing to the resident’s hostility to the city and vice versa. This spectacular stretch of waterfront land towards the southern tip of Cagliari happens to be disconnected from the rest of Cagliari due to massive infrastructural figures, which creates canyons in the urban fabric, also due to the negative ramifications arising from a dysfunctional social housing project, from 1970s.
The museum is located in a public park adjacent to the existing Holocaust Memorial. The building is submerged into the ground allowing the park’s landscape to continue over the roof of the structure. This eco-structural element is one of the largest intensive green roofs in Southern California, which instantly creates sensitivity and an understanding to its surroundings.
"The 3D printing process promises not only bold advances in building aesthetic, but also increased efficiencies in green building techniques as materials and dimensions become more precise and customizable. The technology also greatly expands the potential of biomimicry – the modeling of materials and designs off of the beautiful complexities and utility of natural forms."
"Awesome realistic 3D portraits made with paper by Bert Simons ! After digitalize the model and have reconstructed it in 3D with Blender 3D, an open source software, Bert Simons print every part of the head cut into polygons, and assembles them like a paper toy."
Madren 5340 is a temporary installation designed and fabricated by infrared in the context of the platforma 1 exhibition, organized by ArqLab and the Art|House gallery bar. The exhibition was on display from January 13th to 15th, 2012.
