Here's an interesting optical illusion animation I discovered earlier today. Check out them traveling feet on your right: one may think they tend to step out of phase every now and then when the radial grid becomes visible, yet in reality their movement is always constant and parallel. This becomes obvious whenever the grid disappears.

Scientists studying the bizarre phenomenon of synasthesia – best described as a “union of the senses” whereby two or more of the five senses that are normally experienced separately are involuntarily and automatically joined together – have made a new breakthrough in their attempts to understand the condition.

Are synesthates the new humans2.0? It would seem that being able to perceive numbers and letters as colours or smells may mean that they can sense stimuli at a higher level. A small but interesting study.

A new study finds that patients who take generic anti-epileptic drugs that differ in color from a previously prescribed pill are 50 percent more likely to stop taking the latest medication.

Patients may stop taking drugs if the colour of the pill has changed. It may come from the belief that the 'new' pill doesn't work as well as the 'old' pill (the nocebo effect. We are weird...
