A TOWN of 30,000 people in China has been sealed off after a man died of the bubonic plague.

Not the most reliable/unbiased of news sources, but it does show that the outbreak of the Bubonic Plague is still a possibility even now. Mass transport systems - especially aeroplanes -  could easily spread such a disease over many continents.
