Governor Rick Scott: State of Florida will sue Department of Homeland Security in voter registration battle (VIDEO) | The Billy Pulpit | Scoop.it

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) said he will sue the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to move forward with his controversial attempt to purge the voter-rolls in his state of ineligible voters.

“I have a job to do to defend the right of legitimate voters,” Scott told Fox News on Monday. “We’ve been asking for the Department of Homeland Security’s database, SAVE, for months, and they haven’t given it to us. So this afternoon, we will be filing a lawsuit, the secretary of State of Florida, against the Department of Homeland Security to give us that database. We want to have fair, honest elections in our state and we have been put in a position that we have to sue the federal government to get this information.”

Fed: Net worth of American family falls 40% in 3 years | The Billy Pulpit | Scoop.it

Via Washington Post:

"The net worth of the American family has fallen to its lowest level in two decades, according to government data released Monday, driven by a more than 40 percent drop in their stake in their homes.

The Federal Reserve’s detailed survey of consumer finances showed families’ median wealth plunged from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010 — a 39 percent decline. That put them on par with median wealth in 1992..."

5 things the TSA doesn’t want you to see (VIDEO) | The Billy Pulpit | Scoop.it
Via TSA News Blog:

"This is a picture of two Transportation Security Administration screeners leaving work last week.

But look closely. They’re nowhere near an airport. In fact, if you’ve ever been to Washington, then you’ll recognize the area just outside a Metro station near a congressional office building.

This is just one the images the TSA didn’t want you to see last week.

How do I know? Because when I asked the agency assigned to protect America’s transportation systems about the picture, its response was “off the record” — meaning that I’m not allowed to tell you what it said..."

A summer class at UNC-Chapel Hill that lacked any instruction was enrolled exclusively with football players – and it landed on the school calendar just days before the semester started, university records show.

The records show that in the summer of 2011, 19 students enrolled in AFAM 280: Blacks in North Carolina, 18 of them players on the football team, the other a former player. They also show that academic advisers assigned to athletes helped the players enroll in the class, which is the subject of a criminal investigation..."

Britto's Wynwood Compound Now Covered in Graffiti, Possibly Even Makes Britto Cool Again - Miami Arts - Cultist

Britto's Wynwood Compound Now Covered in Graffiti, Possibly Even Makes Britto Cool Again - Miami Arts - Cultist | The Billy Pulpit | Scoop.it
Via Cultist:

"You can say what you will about Britto. His cutesy pop art was an extremely lame representation of Miami as the graphic wrap on Dolphins Stadium for Superbowl 2010, but the guy knows how to make money, and he's never abandoned the 305 as his HQ.

The recent vandalism of his longtime Wynwood compound by the paint-charged fire extinguisher defacement of C-Dog may have been funny to some, but it also spurred an immediate remuralization. We don't know if Britto himself did any of the work; it was probably his army of minions. (Hey, the guy creates lots of jobs in the arts.) But the brightly colored, graffiti-inspired freeform spraycan work that now covers the outside of his space bears the signature of Britto himself -- and it's actually pretty cool..."

Techdirt: 'Tell The White House To Stop Illegally Seizing & Shutting Down Websites' | The Billy Pulpit | Scoop.it

Via Techdirt:

While the public got reasonably upset about SOPA's overreach, and the possibility that it would be used to shut down websites with no due process, what they miss is that the federal government has been pretending that it already has that right under the last change to copyright law -- the ProIP Act (not the same as the Protect IP Act, which was the Senate's counterpart to SOPA). The ProIP Act was filled with a ton of bad ideas. An outcry (much smaller than SOPA) at least stopped some of the very very worst parts of the original ProIP Act from being enacted, but there were still plenty of "easter eggs" from the entertainment industry. One of them was the expansion of "civil forfeiture proceedings..."

Via MSNBC:

"A 28-year-old man testified Monday that former Penn State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky treated him 'like his girlfriend' for more than two years, showering him with gifts he was afraid he would lose if he told anyone about Sandusky's increasingly sexual behavior.

Sandusky, 68, denies all 52 counts alleging he abused 10 boys over 15 years. Two grand jury reports accused him of having used his connection to the one of the nation's premier college football programs to "groom" the boys, whom he met through his Second Mile charity for troubled children, for sexual relationships..."

"The autopsy finding that Eugene had no human flesh in his stomach jibes with the crime-scene investigation, which found chunks of Poppo’s flesh on the ground, as if they had been spit out. The autopsy also revealed human flesh lodged between the teeth of Eugene, who did not have his two top front teeth, the law enforcement source said. Eugene is known to have lost his two front teeth in an accident as a child.

Police found a set of gold teeth in the pockets of his pants discarded on the causeway."

"NBC News reports today that law enforcement authorities have uncovered emails that show Penn State President Graham Spanier, PSU Vice President Gary Schultz and PSU Athletic Director Tim Curley “discussed whether they needed to tell authorities about a 2001 allegation involving a late night encounter between a naked Sandusky and a young boy in the Penn State shower room.

Penn State even did legal research on the issue. But in one e-mail exchange two sources say Spanier and former vice president Gary Schultz agreed it would be, quote, “humane” to Sandusky not to inform social services and the incident never got reported.
Video and text of the transcript of the NBC report, which concluded by noting that, “the investigation as to whether there’s a cover-up by Penn State officials is very active and going strong,” is below..."

The man has been named as Everett Lages and details of the cat-fight with police emerged when the Charlotte County Sheriff’s office released details of the incident on their Facebook page.

Officers were called to the scene after the owner refused admission to Lages who attempted to bring a kitten into the club shortly after 9.00pm (a bit early for a strip-club surely Mr Lages?)

Florida Governor Rick Scott accuses Obama administration of ‘stalling’ on database to check voters

Florida Governor Rick Scott accuses Obama administration of ‘stalling’ on database to check voters | The Billy Pulpit | Scoop.it

Via Palm Beach Post:

During a visit to West Boca this morning, Gov. Rick Scott accused President Obama‘s administration of “stalling” by not releasing a database that Scott says would help Florida weed out non-citizens from the state’s voter rolls.

Scott, whose attempts to scrub voter lists have been slammed by the U.S. Department of Justice and county elections supervisors, took the offensive this morning in remarks to reporters in West Boca.

“Look the debate’s over. We clearly have proof that citizens that don’t have the right to vote, non-citizens, are voting in our elections. As your governor I have an obligation to enforce the law and I intend to do that. I expect the Homeland Security to stop stalling. The Obama administration is stalling about giving us this database. This is the database that we should have. I look forward to them giving us the data base so we can make sure that our elections are fair and honest and only individuals that have the right to vote are voting in our elections,” Scott said...

"Public art by Romero Britto, the artist most identified with Miami around the world, is a frequent and easy target for graffiti bombers. His “Beach Ball” in Miami Shores, a sculpture sporting Britto’s trademark bright colors and pop-art patterns, got the treatment last June when some blunt vandal scrawled the words “Not Art” across it with red spray paint. Then, in July of 2011, someone — maybe the same someone — tagged the same sculpture with the words “Meaningless Bliss” and “error”..."
