ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County’s mayor is working to change the commission’s cellphone policy after a WESH 2 News investigation revealed most commissioners were in contact with lobbyists ahead of a controversial vote.
According to text messages released as public record, five of six commissioners were in contact with one or more lobbyists, or the head of the Orange County Republican Party, while they considered a sick pay initiative.
The text messages show communications about the paid sick time measure proposed by the group Citizens for a Great Orange County were exchanged on Sept. 11 – the day the commission voted to keep the measure off the November ballot.
