The federal government has taken possession of the home that former Okaloosa County Tourist Development Council director Mark Bellinger bought with stolen money [originally sent by BP after the 2010 oil spill].
U.S. District Court Judge Casey Rodgers signed an order Friday turning over the home, at 4384 Stonebridge Road in Destin, to government authorities.
Kathleen Bellinger, who was married to Bellinger when he died May 4 in an apparent suicide, had signed away all rights to the property in June.
Mark Bellinger bought the Destin home for $747,000 during the summer of 2011. He used funds he got hold of as money was transferred between Lewis Communications of Mobile, Ala., and the county.
The funds were to have been used for a national television campaign marketing the area.
