DELRAY BEACH — A 24-year-old Colorado man is facing a fraud charge in Palm Beach County after police say he stole more than $40,000 from his stepfather while visiting him in the hospital.
Gregory Windus, of Nederland, Colorado, came down in March 2011 to visit his stepfather Edward Mosher in Delray Medical Center. Mosher fell and fractured his skull during a fall and recovered at the hospital from March to April 2011, according to a Delray Beach Police probable cause affidavit. During his stay, Mosher kept his checkbook in his hospital room and Windus got hold of it, according to the report.
He made out eight checks to himself and in the memo section wrote “legal fees,” “rent,” “bills,” “motorcycle and automobile,” according to the affidavit and, between April 19, 2011 and July 25, 2011, Windus deposited $43,500 of his stepfather’s money from his Charles Schwab account into his own bank account...
