Ann Klotz is one of my favorite heads of school.  This works for any parent in any school...and for boys as well as girls.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, December 12, 10:30 AM

I worked closely with parents, but, when it is not the cultural norm, it is resented. An independent school has some advantages in breaking free from repressive norms.

Even though I do not want to attended these colleges it is a helpful to consider this while looking at colleges. I will need to call the representatives of the school I wish to apply to and talk with them about what kind of accommodations they have for students like me.  I know I will need to have  accommodations for extended time on tests and assignments as well as needing provided notes because of the challenges I face while trying to copy material from the board. information just gets lost between the link of my brain to my hand. This article is just a reminder of the steps I will need to take.

Linda Alexander's insight:

In my limited experience, places where "some" migration occurs tend to be friendly and easier to make friends and get involved.   Arizona is that way....very easy to make new friends, get involved in the community, etc. because social ties are not restricted to people who have known each other forever.  However, too much migration isn't good either.  People feel less tied to the community and willing to volunteer, pay taxes, etc.

Linda Alexander's insight:

Love  the history of color! Just think about this single paragraph:

"We have chemist William Henry Perkins to thank for the color mauve. During experiments pertaining to a possible malaria cure extracted from tar, he noticed a "strangely beautiful color" tinting the residue of his flasks. That color was a soft version of violet, which Perkins originally named "Tyrian Purple," after the Roman favorite we discussed earlier. He soon changed it to mauve or mauveine. His discover led to a pigment frenzy, in which chemists literally mined coal to see what colors were hiding inside. (Mauve sample from The American Practical Dyer’s Companion by F. J. Bird, 1882. Los Angeles, Getty Research Institute 84-B25071.)"  Wow.  What a find.
