LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2013) – As kids nationwide are getting back into the homework routine, the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) teamed up with Google to ask parents the question many silently dread each fall – are you ever unable to help your kids with their homework?
The new survey revealed that not only do nearly 50 percent of parents (49.1 percent)* admit to struggling with providing kids the homework help they need, but also nearly half (46.5 percent)** of parents with children in grades one through 12 who feel unable to lend a helping hand struggle because they themselves don’t understand the subject matter.
This is really fascinating and I completely believe its true. I believe it's true because my mom never really understands how yo help me with my homework an my dad most of the time does. This isn't about throwing my mom under the bus. It's about the question comes to my mind: is this becuase my mom didn't understand it when she learned it our I because she never learned it or both? This is could possibly be because the subjects the kids these days are learning are completely new to adults. After all, it is a whole new generation!
"The U.S. Supreme Court today unanimously invalidated patents on two genes associated with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer in response to a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Public Patent Foundation (PUBPAT) on behalf of researchers, genetic counselors, patients, breast cancer and women’s health groups, and medical professional associations representing 150,000 geneticists, pathologists, and laboratory professionals."
Will this impact the way researchers of breast cancer share their information and research? Obviously, the people will still share their information because they probably want to help people and cure people, but if it was me, I wouldn't want some one stealing my information and calling it theirs. Unless, you are the type of person who doesn't really care about credit and just wants tell help people, it feels good to receive credit for helping those people. Hopefully, researchers will still feel the need to share their research even if they don't get a patent.

These are the slides from my talk on "Providing Patients with Access to their Personal Medical Records On-The-Go" at the 2nd Annual Wireless Healthcare Asia Summit 2012 in Singapore.
Instead of talking about hard core tech and uber cool technologies, this time I touched upon the issues which have hurt the adoption of patient record technologies and driven the usage down, and caused consequent fragmentation of potential solutions.
I strongly feel that actively driving adoption is the key to realizing the benefits of healthcare technology. And my talk was about a 3 point strategy to electronic patient records. INTEGRATE , ENGAGE AND SHARE...
This seems to be very helpful and convenient for patients, but what I'm worried about is the hacking of personal records. The web and technology is a very common "play ground" for hackers and creepy people. If something is on the internet it can be hacked (by the wrong people.) And, especially since they're health records, it's not safe to put it on there. Someone could potentionally hack the system, get into someone's records, find their illnesses snd their location, and harm them! Now, I might be over reacting and exaggerating, but it's not the safest thing to put personal records on internet files. I'm not against a more convenient way to of things such as technology, but until it's completely secure, they can't risk this kind of stuff.
This is very good news for a kid like me because this helps me convince me parents that I should get more games because of thus diagram. I feel that this might not be true for all games because some games are just random, but then again that could help kids with creativity. I feel that now that I am aware of this it seems nothing but true. And I really hope that when I show my parents this, it will convince to get more games. Who knew games help brains!
I predict that this s because the british are helping the islaists in the holy wars. Plus, these are just British Islamists which makes sense. But, then again how is Syria in relation with the holy wars. Is Syria siding with the opposite side of islam. Why are they in there? Is it because Obama told them too? I wonder why!
China’s navy is expected to begin the first sea patrols next year of a new class of strategic missile submarines, highlighting a new and growing missile threat to the U.S. homeland, according to U.S. defense officials.
What does this meander the safety of our citizens. I know that the Chinese army has stengthed because the wealth of china goes to the army. This means that they must be planning this which means that they will be extremely prepared. I hope that this gives the U.S. Army a heads up to plan ahead in case that China's intentions are true. I know that America's army is well trained, but I am worried that they won't be enough to stop them.
In his nationally televised speech Tuesday night, President Obama made an awkward and embarrassing tactical retreat on his announced plans to carry out military strikes against Syria. It would be a grave mistake, however, ...
I'm sorry that the president made an embarrassment out of himself, but I'm very glad to hear that he has retreated on the whole idea. Not only to I think it's saving America from trouble, but it's saving other places from if we make a mistake and it effects other people involved. Hopefully, Mr. President realized that we need to use our resources, such as military, wiser than if this decision was to be passed.

I completely agree. The United States is just making things worse by meddling. Plus I've seen many other scoop it's saying the same thing. that they disagree completely. Plus I think this is a great metaphor and used exactly right in the context!
Boise State Public Radio Millions in drugs seized at border U-T San Diego Border officers seized nearly 600 pounds of drugs worth more than $4 million during four incidents last week, federal officials said Tuesday.
I think that this is awful. It's an awful impact on the world and not good influence on kids. I'm very glad that we have such good security, but still that's awful. I hope in the future, someone will fix the drug problem.
I am eye. I am a mechanical eye. I, a machine, am showing you a world, the likes of which only I can see. -- from Dziga Vertov's (1896 - 1954) "I Am Camera."
This September I watched anxiously as Dylan, my student in the Personal Projects class, lifted a jagged, ruby-colored shard of glass over the worktable while wearing computer-in-an-eyeglass technology known as Google Glass.
I asked was he recording. He nodded "Yes."
Dylan was about to smooth the edges of the ruby shard using a grinder for the stain-glass window he was making while recording the process using Glass. He is a responsible 17-year-old who had experience in the classroom studio, but after many years of teaching studio art, I can still get a little nervous about mixing young adults and new technology along with sharp objects.
"Make sure you direct the video towards your hands, but pay attention to what you're doing, please," I said. "Try to forget that you are recording and just make sure you don't lose a finger, ok?"
Dylan took my nagging in stride and again nodded in affirmation. He then gestured his head up and down to turn the device on and in a clear, distinct voice said, "Ok Glass, record a video." He brought the ruby shard towards the grinder as the machine whirred to life.
The recording process went smoothly and required little time to train Dylan in its use. After recording, a slight tap on the side of the device uploaded the video to a social network. The ease of use is partly why I am excited by pioneering Google Glass in the classroom, but I am most eager to explore the possibilities of using it for immersive, experiential learning and documentation used for reviewing and reflecting upon the student's work.
This is truly incredible. It had the feel of glasses and has the use of a phone. Plus, it is voice activated and movement activated. This brings so many possibilities into the future. It means that you can do basically anything with your hands and if you want to record what your doing like the student did or if your just having lunch and you want to call a buddy to join you, you can! It's cool because now you can multitask or just do something on the google glass and have free hands!
After what has happened to the Philippines, it is even more unfortunate that they aren't that reachable for aid. I hope that even though the effort is tough peoe will still try to help them. They probably are and hopefully the people will fund an easier route to get to the Philippines. I am still saying prayers for them!
This is a great invention for the society! You can psint anything with electric paint. This could be anything! It's one invention that does the things that 1000 inventions do! This is definetly on my Christmas list!
This is similar to something I saw in technology class. It was something about the new glass invention, the flexible durable glass tablets, phones, maps, and even billboard. That's correct, animated bill boards! What does this mean for the inovation of the future technology. This is inovating at its finest. Before we know it, there will be flying cars and mind apps!
Exactly as I predicted when I reported on the Obama leak on the strike on Hezb’Allah’s military missile base, Israel is stunned by the betrayal by the Obama administration.
This brings up many questions for me. Why is Israel mad? Are Isreal and Syria allibys? Maybe, they're helping eachother. This also brings up the question of what could happen because we already have Syria mad at us and we don't need aisreal mad at us. I also thought that the US is helping aisreal in the holy wars and they shouldn't be mad at us because then we won't help them in the Holy Wars and it seems that they need all the help that they can get!
"DALLAS – Nov. 7, 2013 – A team of researchers at UT Southwestern has found that as cholesterol is metabolized, a potent stimulant of breast cancer is created – one that fuels estrogen-receptor positive breast cancers, and that may also defeat a common treatment strategy for those cancers.
Dr. Philip Shaul, Professor and Vice Chair for Research in Pediatrics and a member of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center
The multidisciplinary team discovered that a cholesterol metabolite called 27-hydroxycholesterol, or 27HC, promotes tumor growth in estrogen-receptor positive breast cancers, which are the most common type of breast cancer. Estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer was previously believed to be stimulated primarily by the female sex hormone estrogen and it is commonly treated using endocrine-based medications that starve tumors of estrogen.
The discovery of 27HC as another driver of breast cancer may explain why endocrine-based therapy is often unsuccessful, providing a new target for therapy, the researchers say."
This is a great breakthrough because now researchers can adjust the cancer treatments to break through this new discovery. This is great for the society because it could possibly cure the most common breast cancer. I hope that researchers find a way to treat the cancer now that the have more facts, I think that this is a lesson to all former researchers that if you assume something as they did here with the female hormone, you won't succeed. And I really do hope and believe that this researchers will succeed. This could really change the way researchers look at their research.
Alex is joined by Professor of International Law Francis Boyle to discuss the continuous news coming out on Syria, the use of chemical weapons and the fright... (Is Obama Leading The U.S. into War with Russia?
I thought that we were just in war with Syria, not Russia as well! this concludes that meddling in other countries where you don't have a dog in the fight is not wise. I hope this all gets resolved and Obama backs down on the threat of war in Syria. Not only would we be in war with Syria, but we would be in war with Russia. I say that if someone's not threatening our country, then we stay out of their business!
Over the past few days, a 4,500-square-mile area across Colorado's Front Range has been hit by devastating floods, leaving at least six dead, forcing thousands to evacuate, and destroying thousands of homes and farms...
I think that this is very troubling. I heard that president Obama is calling colorado a disaster area. this is also troubling, but I'm glad to here that American Red Cross has come to the rescue. I hope that this all gets resolved and that there is no more floods to come.
I recently got the ios7 and it is fabulous. Its not only mobile devices, but iPads too. Its a brand new design with brighter colors and lovely new additions to camera and photos. Plus AirDrop, Siri, and more!
President Obama announced this weekend that he has decided to use military force against Syria and would seek authorization from Congress when it returned from its August break. Every Member ought to vote against this reckless and immoral use of the US military. But even if every single Member and Senator votes for another war, it will not make this terrible idea any better because some sort of nod is given to the Constitution along the way. Besides, the president made it clear that Congressional authorization is superfluous, asserting falsely that he has the authority to act on his own with or without Congress. That Congress allows itself to be treated as window dressing by the imperial president is just astonishing.
The President on Saturday claimed that the alleged chemical attack in Syria on August 21 presented "a serious danger to our national security." I disagree with the idea that every conflict, every dictator, and every insurgency everywhere in the world is somehow critical to our national security. That is the thinking of an empire, not a republic. It is the kind of thinking that this president shares with his predecessor and it is bankrupting us and destroying our liberties here at home.
According to recent media reports, the military does not have enough money to attack Syria and would have to go to Congress for a supplemental appropriation to carry out the strikes. ...
I kind of agree with the author of this Scoop because instead of meddling in other locations or places, our government should be use their power and time to create more job opportunities. Or something useful towards our country. Then again, leaving Syria and other neighboring civilizations in harm is not very considerate. But, then again our military is not a toy that five year olds use. It's a group of people risking their lives for our lives and, we must respect that by using them for strong purposes only. I'm on the fence with this decision, and I wouldn't be surprised if congress was divided equally in opinions.
