Have scientists been looking at heart disease from the wrong angle? The answer may be yes, according to the results of a new study.

 

Researchers looked at the amount of added sugar consumed in the American diet. 

They found that most Americans had been consuming about 10% or more of their calories from added sugar, and 10% of the population had been consuming as much as 25%.

Those who consumed 17–21% of their calories from added sugar had a 38% increased risk of cardiovascular death compared to people who only ate 8% of their calories from added sugar. People who ate more than 21% of their daily calories from added sugar doubled their risk of cardiac death.

Oil pulling has been around for years, which makes me mad I’ve only just found out about it. It’s an ancient Ayurvedic technique that basically involves you swishing oil in your mouth for 20 minutes (no more no less) to help improve your oral & overall health. The idea behind it is pretty simple stupid- the oil is “sticky” and when you swish it around in your mouth bacteria gets stuck in the oil & dissolves.

 

It’s easy to do. Pick an oil, you can use ORGANIC coconut oilor any other vegetable based oil (Sesame/ Sunflower/ or Olive).

You can sun dry or UV-zap store-bought or homegrown shiitake, maitake, button, and many other mushroom species.

 

My personal preference is home grown organic shiitake. The high vitamin D levels generated will last for more than a year.

 

Surprisingly, even sliced and dried mushrooms—including wild ones picked the year before—will soar in vitamin D when placed outdoors under the sun.

Health is usually defined as the condition of being well or free from disease or injury, but what does health mean to you?

 

Is it simply the absence of illness, or something more?

 

Why should we just settle for not being sick? Why not aim higher?

 

Not to simply be healthy, but to thrive and flourish…

 

to have so much energy it radiates and spreads to others…

 

to literally jump out of bed every morning prepared to face any challenge or explore any possibility…

 

to reach our fullest potentials, and as Thoreau said, “live deep and suck out all the marrow of life…”
