The former scientist leaves his house in Oxford at 11am and immediately begins hurling brief insults at anyone who comes within 10 feet of him.
According to local residents, a typical 30 second burst will include phrases such as ‘please don’t have children’, ‘you look like a baptist’, ‘everything about your shoes sickens me’ and ‘your face seems to be inside out’.
A huge star on the American evangelical Christian scene, Vicky Beeching found the stress of being gay in a very conservative community almost intolerable and became seriously ill. Here she tells how she reached breaking point
Growing up in Schuylkill Haven, Jennifer and Bethany Petrich, said they were very familiar with the Cake Pros bakery. That's why when the two were planning a ceremony to renew their vows the bakery seemed like an obvious choice to supply the cake. "They had called and said to her they were a christian bakery and the owner talked to Jesus for two weeks," Jennifer said. "And that because it was two females getting married she couldn't bake our cake."
I have a rule in my personal life. I don’t bring up my atheism to anyone unless that person brings up religion first. If someone never mentions religion to me, they would never hear anything about atheism from me. They would not have their religious beliefs criticized by me if they just don’t bring it up. However, religious believers have a really hard time not talking about their imaginary deity and all the absurdly ridiculous other religious beliefs that go along with belief in God. They just can’t help themselves.
During a speech in Texas last week, Rafael Cruz, the father of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), encouraged religious leaders to “restore America” by distributing biblical voting guides in church. “When government ceases to work towards those ends it is our right, and it is I believe our duty, to remove that government and replace it with another government,” the conservative pastor said July 31 at Trinity I.S.D. Auditorium, paraphrasing the Declaration of Independence.
So, can you have religions without a church? Humanism almost qualifies. It sacralises humanity, claiming for us a significance that is not to be derived from either biology or physics. Organised humanism clearly has unified beliefs and practices. It even has the world’s most lugubrious and sentimental hymn: John Lennon’s Imagine. Like all modern religions it has universalist aspirations, claiming to explain the lives of non-believers better than they can do so themselves. It can inspire heroism and self-sacrifice, but also be used to legitimise intolerance – see Sam Harris and his friends.
As a movement we’ve become top-heavy on arguers and ludicrously understaffed for every other job position. The shame of it is that there are atheists with precisely the skills we need right now who are kept from making their own crucial contributions by the perception that, if you’re not a thuggish debater, we don’t require you. I modestly present, then, some Atheist Classifieds for the sorts of positions we need to be fostering to keep atheism from swallowing its own tail in the decades to come.
Democrats in DC are celebrating their latest accomplishments in destroying America’s relationship with Jesus tonight. Gathered under the supermoon, the liberals chanted “Obama, Obama” as rain poured from the skies. The rain was tears of angels crying because so many Americans have turned their backs on Jesus.
A Florida woman said her family’s church canceled funeral plans for her son after learning he was gay.
Julie Atwood said the pastor of Tampa’s New Hope Missionary Baptist Church abruptly called off the service after reading her son’s obituary and discovering he was survived by a husband.
“Based on our preaching of the scripture, we would have been in error to allow the service in our church,” said Pastor T.W. Jenkins. “I’m not trying to condemn anyone’s lifestyle, but at the same time, I am a man of God, and I have to stand up for my principles.”
Kansas resident Amy Grant noticed that every time she went to her local prayer booth to pray, she would suddenly develop ‘intense migraine’ pain. New revelations from Edward Snowden reveal how Obama and the NSA have developed a way to ‘wiretap’ the prayers of all Christians and archive what people have been praying for in a large database. The END TIMES are truly upon us, my friends. The Age of Liberal Darkness is here. The Bible warns that the …
Matthew Lane Durham, the 19-year-old Oklahoma missionary accused of sexually abusing multiple children while on a trip to Kenya, reportedly believes that a demon named Luke had taken over and forced him to commit the heinous crimes.
The state of Nebraska has refused to give a woman who was born there a driver’s license or even recognize her name because she is married to another woman.
Sue Stroesser told The Omaha World-Herald that she had no trouble getting a driver’s license at the age of 16, but the state has refused to give her one at the age of 51.
Sue and Mary Stroesser have been together for 30 years, were married in Iowa in 2009, and recently moved back to Nebraska. When she went to the DMV last month to get her Nebraska driver’s license, she was told that her Iowa marriage license could not be accepted as proof of her name change.
Nebraska passed a constitutional amendment in 2000 that prevents the state from recognizing same-sex marriages.
