APTN National News
The Legislative Assembly of Nunavut just passed some major changes to their Integrity Act.

The changes make it difficult for senior civil servants to blow the whistle on politicians who behave unethically.

The educational program was delivered by volunteers with the amateur radio on the International Space Station (ARISS).

The organization ARISS Canada aims to inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math through amateur radio communications opportunities.

ARISS is an international working group of delegations from nine countries, including Canada, Japan, Russia, the U.S. and several European countries.

The organization is run by volunteers from national amateur radio organizations and the Radio Amateur Satellite Corp. from each country.

NunatsiaqOnline 2013-05-10: NEWS: Carbon dioxide in air breaks million-year-old record in Arctic, subtropics | The Arctic - Nunavut | Scoop.it
Eric Lawlor's insight:

"Scientists estimate that the last time that carbon dioxide levels remained as high as 400 ppm was probably between 3.2 million and five million years ago.

Then, Arctic was as much as 14 C to 22 C warmer than today, trees like larch, birch, alder and cedar, covered the land, and giant beavers and eight-foot-tall camels roamed the High Arctic."

CBC North | Features: Nunavut Sivuniksavut 2013 | The Arctic - Nunavut | Scoop.it

CBC North's annual visit to students at Nunavut Sivuniksavut college in Ottawa took place on February 21 and 22, 2013. About 20 students took part in media workshops at Algonquin College. The two-day television and radio courses provide a glimpse of what it's like to work in the media.

First year students learn how to interview, write news stories, shoot for television and edit. They try their hand at reading radio newscasts, and hosting radio programs. They also shoot and edit short TV stories (see the videos on the left)...they have 3 hours to write, shoot and edit the stories, so it's impressive what they came up with.

Students in the media program at Algonquin College volunteer their time to help with the workshops. Journalist Joanna Awa from CBC Iqaluit talked about working at CBC in the North. Lucy van Oldenbarneveld, host of the CBC TV supper hour news in Ottawa, also gave a workshop for the students.
