Humankind has been telling complex stories through simple visuals long before you saw your first infographic at Mashable. History is humbling, let's go back in

If you are into data and storytelling, then this brief overview is for you. The slideshare program quickly explains data visualization through time.

Of course, how data is displayed -- if done well -- can tell its own story.  The next step is to give a presentation as a story, and tell the story of the data as you are doing so.

Until then, enjoy this quick historical review of visual storytelling.

Free Technology for Teachers: VideoNotes - A Great Tool for Taking Notes While Watching Academic Videos

Free Technology for Teachers: VideoNotes - A Great Tool for Taking Notes While Watching Academic Videos | :: The 4th Era :: | Scoop.it

VideoNotes is a neat new tool for taking notes while watching videos. VideoNotes allows you to load any YouTube video on the left side of your screen and on the right side of the screen VideoNotes gives you a notepad to type on. VideoNotes integrates with your Google Drive account. By integrating with Google Drive VideoNotes allows you to share your notes and collaborate on your notes just as you can do with a Google Document.

I have just began testing this recommendation by Richard Byrne on Free Technology 4 Teachers.  But in the time I have taken to test the web resource, I have found it to live up to the billing of syncrhonizing notes to the video.  Now the video used was from YouTube and the site does have an option for other videos.  So, I will be looking further into what other video sources it will work with while synchronizing one's notes to Google Drive.

Thanks for your comment Dean - I have had some problems - when deleting a 'chapter mark' it seems to throw sync of subsequent markers - just something to be aware of. or possible just me?

The Khan Academy Opens Its Virtual Doors — Carefully | MindShift | :: The 4th Era :: | Scoop.it

In an interesting move, Salaman Khan is opening up the Khan Academy to crowdsourced videos which will be curated by his team.

I think this is extremely encouraging and opens up a whole new horizon for the development and use of video  for learning.
