Purchasing the iPads was the easy part. Managing them is another matter. Dean Shareski says that “iPads are meant to be owned, not managed.” I think he is correct, but managing them still needs to be done for my grade one students. We have a wide selection of games on the iPad for the “kids” enjoyment and a couple leap to mine as useful tools that could be applied to learning. Students using the Apple's iPad for their studies have been found to score higher than their paper-based peers and enjoy higher efficiency, according to a new study.

Now, I wonder if there are more variables involved here rather than the simple fact these people used iPads? What about SES and/or level of education? Might it be that those using iPads are from a higher SES than those not, which means they probably already scored better than many of their peers? Or, perhaps this study should seek to determine if those using iPads performed better WITH the device as opposed to without it?
