10 Common Blog Writing Mistakes (Infographic)

10 Common Blog Writing Mistakes (Infographic) | Personal Branding Using Scoopit | Scoop.it
Ever wondered what the most common grammar mistakes are that bloggers make? Run-on sentences, punctuation, or maybe use of wrong tenses? This infographic highlights common blog post writing errors and blogging facts.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

I love the 92% of companies who blog multiple times a day have acquired a customer from their blog stat. You might wonder how that could work. How can a company blog multiple times a day?

Shorten up your blog posts and widen your content curation and creation path and creating multiple post a day is possible. Each post has a unique URL so they shouldn't step on each other too badly (and that is another good reason to create a wide swath of content).

Brain Pickings is a great example of the power of intense blogging for long periods. Maria Popova's blog has almost 11,000 pages in Google, a PageRank of 7 and almost 11,000 inbound links. Smart content distributed across a wide swath with multiple posts a day can create a powerful SEO position.

My blog writing tips:

* Write in present tense verbs (sounds FAST).
* Short sentences without connections (and, but, so hurt more than they help online).

* Bullet points are good, great visual support is better.
* Match written content to visual support.

* Avoid "stop words" like "him, her, it, they".

* Be specific (use keywords whenever possible).
* Don't sweat grammar but watch the spelling.

Secrets of a Killer Blog Post #Infographic

Secrets of a Killer Blog Post #Infographic | Personal Branding Using Scoopit | Scoop.it
A blog post is a great way to add extra value to your website and it’s a proven strategy for attracting new customers. The catch is that you have to add new content all the time.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Some of these tips are excellent, some stink. Be Controversial is a good example of a stinker. If you are Morton Downey then yes be controversial, but if you are NOT naturally controversial putting that air on to game the system is stupid.

There are no secrets anymore and you won't be able to maintain a mask long enough to establish a brand so why do it? Best idea is to do what comes naturally to you, tell the stories you know and keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Next best thing to do is hand the keys over and let others write, curate and contribute. When people consistently help out GIVE THEM A JOB. Ask them to monitor a section of your blog or website, ask them to tweet or provide guest blog posts.

Asking for something may be the ultimate confirming signal. The web is a huge lie detecting amplifier. Never become something you aren't to get links, social shares or traffic. You won't be able to maintain the masquerade and life is too short anyway.

There are some good tips mixed in such as ask questions and communicate the value and who the post is for. More good tips than bad here :). M
