Personal Branding MacGuffins - Stuff You Have To Have To Get That Dream Job

Personal Branding MacGuffins - Stuff You Have To Have To Get That Dream Job | Personal Branding Using Scoopit |

Personal Branding MacGuffins
We explored Why Every Website Has A MacGuffin in Curation Revolution ( and at ). That got us to thinking about personal branding MacGuffins.

MacGuffins in film are plot devices that move the story forward but may not be fully explained to the audience. The glowing case in Pulp Fiction is a famous film MacGuffin.

Online MacGuffins are things customers expect. Things like Free Shipping for an ecommerce site whose absence does more damage than its presence creates benefit. What are MacGuffins for your personal brand?

Personal Brand MacGuffins include:

* Having a LinkedIn Profile.
* Having recommendations from every recent job on your LI Profile. * Having YOUR picture on your LI Profile.
* Including a link to your Twitter on your LI Profile.
* Including a link to your personal blog or company website (and your personal blog scores higher).
* Telling your story in detail, supported by your recommendations and visually.

What other "personal brand" MacGuffins, things that hurt more in their absence than may help in their presence, can you discover and share?

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Blogging is KEY to personal branding. There may be no greater CSF (Critical Success Factors) when it comes to your personal brand. Why?

Because each blog post builds a legacy, an oeuvre. As you tell stories they  define you. You become a brand - You Da Brand.

10 Common Blog Writing Mistakes (Infographic)

10 Common Blog Writing Mistakes (Infographic) | Personal Branding Using Scoopit |
Ever wondered what the most common grammar mistakes are that bloggers make? Run-on sentences, punctuation, or maybe use of wrong tenses? This infographic highlights common blog post writing errors and blogging facts.

Via Lauren Moss, Martina Friesenbichler
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

I love the 92% of companies who blog multiple times a day have acquired a customer from their blog stat. You might wonder how that could work. How can a company blog multiple times a day?

Shorten up your blog posts and widen your content curation and creation path and creating multiple post a day is possible. Each post has a unique URL so they shouldn't step on each other too badly (and that is another good reason to create a wide swath of content).

Brain Pickings is a great example of the power of intense blogging for long periods. Maria Popova's blog has almost 11,000 pages in Google, a PageRank of 7 and almost 11,000 inbound links. Smart content distributed across a wide swath with multiple posts a day can create a powerful SEO position.

My blog writing tips:

* Write in present tense verbs (sounds FAST).
* Short sentences without connections (and, but, so hurt more than they help online).

* Bullet points are good, great visual support is better.
* Match written content to visual support.

* Avoid "stop words" like "him, her, it, they".

* Be specific (use keywords whenever possible).
* Don't sweat grammar but watch the spelling.

Phillip Newsome's curator insight, September 26, 2014 10:11 AM

92% of companies that attributed the  acquisition of just 1 customer from blog activity posted multiple times per day.  Stay focused on your customers and hire a competent writer to handle this activity.

Christopher Lopez's curator insight, October 7, 2014 12:38 AM

Blogging is very essential to attract customers. It should be flawless.
