Cath Myrtvedt's insight:

Volvo developing a safety system for cars recognizing wild animals and pedestrians, automatically braking if the driver doesn't react. It has the potential to reduce incidents severely, especially fatalities that happen as a direct result of high speed impact. I would love to have this in my car and hope to see it as a standard in the market soon!

Anger at schoolbus seatbelt laws delay

Anger at schoolbus seatbelt laws delay | OHS 2014 Q1 | Scoop.it
A DELAY in a state government program to roll out seatbelts on school buses has angered south-west safety campaigners.
Cath Myrtvedt's insight:

Car drivers not wearing seat belts risk hundreds of dollars in fines and loss of demerit points, and we all know this is enforced for our own safety in the event of an accident. Yet there is no seat belt requirement on school buses transporting thousands of children every day all over Australia.

Office of Road Safety - Vehicle Safety | Car Safety Features | Buy a Car

Office of Road Safety - Vehicle Safety | Car Safety Features | Buy a Car | OHS 2014 Q1 | Scoop.it
There are many safety features to be considered, when buying either a new car or second-hand car.
Cath Myrtvedt's insight:

Overall safety across Australia would increase by 25% if everybody bought the safest car in their class, reducing death and serious injury by 40%, potentially saving 65 lives each year!

I believe vehicles with poor safety rating should be banned from our roads and I believe car manufacturers should be forced to produce cars with high safety ratings, across all price ranges.

Your budget should not be able to dictate your survival chance in the event of an accident!
