Jeff Caltlin asks some good questions about text analysis and evolution of big data and other productor service offerings.   In our business we are seeing text analytic capabilities being added to solutions in a service oriented architecture, so text analytics becomes a key part of a solution, but it is integrated with other capabilties to become more powerful.   I would like to hear from others about how they are seeing the maket evolve.

Leading Publishers Experiment with Open Access

Leading Publishers Experiment with Open Access | Text Analysis, Text Mining, Sentiment Analysis, Entity Extraction | Scoop.it
Recently, one of the world’s largest publishers announced it would permit conditional open access to its collection of millions of online scholarly papers.
Ralph Poole's insight:

This article talks about how Elesiver, an academic article publisher, is opening up their content to subscribers for text mining. While this is great, we know that the pace of innovation can be increased if more publishers continue to give open access for end-users to mine their content. One of the reasons, other than revenue generation, not touched on in this article is the difficulty of having the bandwith necessary to handle it. Here is another article which talks about that: http://blogs.plos.org/opens/2014/03/09/best-practice-enabling-content-mining/#comment-1235
