San Antonio Marketing Firm Wins Valuable South Padre Island Contract

San Antonio Marketing Firm Wins Valuable South Padre Island Contract | Texas Coast Real Estate | Scoop.it

Atkins Group will work to convince the world to visit South Padre Island.

Atkins says tourism promotion today is generally geared to millennials, since older people generally have settled on their favorite travel destinations.  And Atkins says today's 18 to 35 year old is a different kind of customer when it comes to travel.

Michael Stuart's insight:

"They're looking for very unique experiences," he said.  "That could be something in highly active sports, water sports kinds of things, extreme sports."

Atkins says Millennials are also interested in something that South Padre Island and the Laguna Madre can easily offer eco-tourism.  He says today's tourists may be more interested in seeing a coral reef than with sitting in the sand drinking a beer.

  •   He says since Millennials are less likely to have kids than their Baby Boomer and Generation X predecessors, he expects destination marketing to focus less on kids' activities.
  •   Then there's the matter of the way the message is delivered. Atkins says his campaign will focus on mobile devices, because today's customers are much more spontaneous than those in previous years.
  •   "They are making decisions not only about the destination selection, but about the hotel and condominium property, even while they're traveling to the destination."
  •   South Padre Island is routinely voted one of the top beach destinations in North America, due largely to its miles of sandy beaches and its distinct lack of commercialism.  It is also a major Spring Break destination.

Atkins says he has already begun to work on a plan to deal with what is likely to be his number one challenge.  With politicians like Donald Trump spreading the misinformation that South Texas is somehow more dangerous than other places.

Clearly these guys are not from the Island and have no clue.

Texas Drone Laws in the States

Texas Drone Laws in the States | Texas Coast Real Estate | Scoop.it

Here is an updated list of state drone laws, Texas law allows for drones to be used by ‘a Texas licensed real estate broker in connection with the marketing, sale, or financing of real property.’

Michael Stuart's insight:

They say everything’s bigger in Texas and that seems to apply to drone regulation.

In 2013, the state enacted HB 912, an omnibus bill that identifies 19 lawful uses for drones.

According to Texas Monthly, the bill contains provisions that fly in the opposite direction of most other state laws in that it opens a wide gap for possible law-enforcement abuse – identifying a “long ‘non-applicability’ section (38 exceptions)” for policing agencies.

The report adds:
“None of those are quite as depressingly hilarious as a Texas law that’s designed to protect oil pipelines from being photographed by environmentalists while allowing for law enforcement agencies to survey citizens based on a legal standard that’s only one step up from a hunch,

but our law at least also allows for drones to be used by ‘a Texas licensed real estate broker in connection with the marketing, sale, or financing of real property.’”

The 7 Reasons That Science Says You Should Pay For Experience, Not Things

The 7 Reasons That Science Says You Should Pay For Experience, Not Things | Texas Coast Real Estate | Scoop.it

Planning a vacation this summer? You've chosen to spend your money in the way that's going to give you the most happiness.

It's been determined way beyond reasonable doubt that experiences are more likely than material goods to lead to happiness.

Michael Stuart's insight:

Come to the Texas coast for a beach experience that you and your family will remember forever!

7 Reasons That Science Says Experiences are better than Diamonds

1: WE SEE THE WORLD THROUGH ROSE-TINTED GLASSES -Experiences are better than material goods because of something psychologists call ‘positive re-interpretation," and what you or I would call "looking through rose-tinted glasses." If you buy a bad material good, like shoes that hurt or trousers that make you look fat, you're stuck with the fact you made a bad choice. Those shoes will always hurt. But with experiences it's not like that. You can make them seem better in your mind. Think Fish Tails

2: WE GET BORED OF STUFF EASILY

3: IT'S HARDER TO COMPARE EXPERIENCES

4: THE LIFE-CHANGING MAGIC OF FLOW - Flow is a mental state, first identified by a psychologist called Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, that you get into when you are effortlessly engaged in whatever it is you are doing. This is what athletes mean when they say they're "in the zone." It is what spiritual gurus like Eckhart Tolle mean by "in the present." No matter what you call it, flow is essential for happiness.

5: TO WAIT (FOR AN EXPERIENCE) IS GREAT

6: EXPERIENCES MAKE THE MAN (AND THE WOMAN)

7. WE'RE PEOPLE PEOPLE - You're more likely to be happier, and I'm more likely to listen, when you talk about what you've been up to rather than what you own.
