Enbridge bets on Natural Gas and the Gulf Coast

Enbridge bets on Natural Gas and the Gulf Coast | Texas Coast Real Estate | Scoop.it
The proposed acquisition comes just after TransCanada, Enbridge’s main rival, closed its $13 billion purchase of Columbia Pipeline that boosted its gas position in the U.S.
Michael Stuart's insight:

Enbridge would expand the total length of its long-haul natural gas pipelines to 30,000 kilometres, up from 3,500 today.

These include the Texas Eastern Transmission system that supplies markets in the northeastern U.S. from the Gulf Coast region, as well as smaller conduits such as the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline system, which transports gas from Atlantic Canada to the eastern U.S.

Hooked on a Reeling

Hooked on a Reeling | Texas Coast Real Estate | Scoop.it

Whereas South Padre Island, that other popular beach destination, has the ambience of an amusement park, Port Aransas still feels like the isolated fishing hamlet that it once was.

For most of recorded history, this barrier sand reef has been sparsely populated, first by Karankawa, then by Spanish explorers and pirates, then by U.S. troops during the Mexican and Civil wars. In its glory days, Port Aransas was the Tarpon Capital of the World, drawing sportsmen—including president Franklin D. Roosevelt—to its shores.

Michael Stuart's insight:

Even with the bigger crowds, Port Aransas remains a fisherman's paradise.

Tip, rent a condo at Cinnamon Shore. the still-expanding vacation home community that is a master-planned New-Urbanism alternative to the funky older rentals that many families loyally return to year after year.
