Phraseum - language learning online

Phraseum - language learning online | teoria | Scoop.it

The Web offers huge opportunities to improve any foreign language you’re learning, from news stories, blog posts, comments and all that content. So, find sites with your favourite topics and read them regularly. Phraseum will help you save and organize all useful sentences you come across while reading, in order to learn them later.
You can organize your clips by tags (situation, meaning …) and personal categories (your projects, meetings …)
You can also search for and re-save phrases that others have saved
or discover phrases that match the topics of your interests in your Phrase feed.

Vocabulary builing tool with a web clipper that can be added to a browser for quick additions to a tagged phrasebook - looks like a very interesting use of browser technology that promotes learner autonomy

Amadeu Marin's curator insight, June 7, 2014 8:23 AM

Excellent idea! A fantastic tool to build up a collection of useful chunks or phrases around topics, situations, etc.

LEARNING TIP:

Phraseum provides what they call a 'clipping button' that you

drag onto your browser bookmark bar. Then, while you're reading online, you can highlight a piece of text (collocations, chunks, idioms, etc.) you want to clip, then hit the Phraseum clipping button to save and categorize the phrase into your account to learn or use later.

You can also share the phrases and phrasebooks you create and subscribe to other people's.

Juan Fernández's curator insight, August 1, 2014 3:29 PM
Nik Peachey's insight:

This is a really fantastic tool for the collaborative learning of phrases and collocations. Every language learner should be using this.

Check out this infographic which focuses on scaffolding for deeper understanding. Mia MacMeekin has provided a nine step process.

1. Ask a question.

2. Present a mystery for students to solve.

3. Ask students to draw what they know.

4. Give students ample time to research the mystery.

5. Ask students to draw the mystery and the solution again.

6. Ask students to share their drawings with other students.

7. Ask students to pull their ideas together in one drawing.

8. Teacher patiently asks what if questions.

9. If students needs more information, send them back to step #4, and start over again until the outcome or objective is reached.

MacMeekin notes that her students were engaged in the drawing/scaffolding phase of this and reached a deeper understanding than other classes had. It is also important to note that the ant is actually an analogy. To learn more click through to the post.

Self explanatory visual on the benefits of gaming as a means of learning. Outlined are the rewards, mastery, engagement, intensity, exercise, readiness, and competitiveness. These types of graphics need to be displayed in the classroom. There's always parents who are unsure of how gaming qualifies as teaching. Can't they just sit their kid in front of an iPad all day at home? Well, in the appropriate setting, with the right direction and guidance, games are certainly good for learning. Some people just don't know that from experience yet.

Rodrigo Carneiro's insight:

1. One-size-fits-all does not work for online education.
2. Information is not education -- the current web based learning is creating information overload.
3. Learning requires a cognitive process along with multi-media content.
4. Individuals not only learn differently but they also learn different content in different learning strategy.
5. Every individual has a learning strategy based on cognitive development and a learning pace to digest new leaning content.
6. Individualized learning is the only way to reach higher completion rates and faster learning.
7. Learning is four dimensional which includes -- multimedia, cognitive strategies, interactivity and social learning.
8. The only meaningful assessment is one that helps learner improve and reach desired competency.
9. Anyone can reach learning competency with right learning strategy and pace of learning.
10. The best role of instructors is to guide students on how to learn not just what to learn.

Educação 3.0: ágil e turbinada

Educação 3.0: ágil e turbinada | teoria | Scoop.it
