"Talk about weird … Less than 24 hours before the Labor Day weekend began, 44-plus years of my own labor vanished. This occurred at 9:28 a.m.  Friday when a truck from the University of Tennessee library rolled down my driveway, laden with dozens of boxes crammed with newspaper tearsheets, magazine articles, book manuscripts, notes, photos, audio tapes, negatives, slides, award certificates and letters — both of the "atta-boy" and "#$&%*" variety. I trust the vehicle had an adequate suspension system."

"SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - A tombstone belonging to an East Tennessee Korean War veteran that was found at the bottom of a ravine has been returned to the cemetery where it belongs....

 

The pair contacted Sevier County Public Library System genealogist Theresa Williams, who at first was able to only find out that Walters was born and died in Anderson County. It was a start, though, and she decided to send letters and make calls to mortuaries and funerals homes there...."

The Knoxville Opera Company presents a concert previewing its upcoming season at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Blount County Public Library.

Soprano Maria Natale and baritone Jesse Stock will sing selections from the upcoming operas "Die Fledermaus," "The Girl of the Golden West" and "Cinderella." The concert is free. The library is at 508 N. Cusick St. in Maryville.

The opera's season begins in October with "Die Fledermaus."

Duties and responsibilities may be found in the TLA Manual of Procedures found on TLA’s web site at www.tnla.org under the heading “About TLA.” Please send your nominations (and yes, you may nominate yourself), to one of the Committee members listed below:
