MARYVILLE, TN  (August 22, 2014 )    The Medic Regional Blood Center will be at Blount County Public Library for a blood drive on Tuesday, September 2, from 12 noon to 7 p.m.  The drive will be inside the library in the Sharon Lawson Room.

Tennessee Library Association's insight:

As an added incentive to give, all donors will receive a free ticket to the TVA&I Fair.

            Free and open to the public, the drive is sponsored by Medic and the Blount County Public Library, located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville.

Knoxville Opera Preview to perform at Blount County Public Library

MARYVILLE, TN  (August 15, 2014)   The final concert of this season’s Hot Summer Nights concert series at the Blount County Public Library will be performed by two singers from the Knoxville Opera Company.

            The performance, free to the public and sponsored by the Blount County Friends of the Library, will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, August 28, and will be indoors in air conditioned comfort in the library’s main gallery!

Tennessee Library Association's insight:

            Kevin Doherty, baritone, and Sarah Fitch, mezzosoprano, will sing excerpts from the 2014-15 season’s operas: H.M.S. Pinafore, Carmen and Il Trovatore.  They will also perform some selections from popular songs to make a pleasing program.  Maestro Brian Salesky, Executive Director and Conductor of Knoxville Opera, will be the guest speaker and accompanist.

 Information about the Knoxville Opera and this year’s performances in Knoxville is available atwww.knoxvilleopera.com . 

Mezzosoprano Sarah Fitch earned her Master’s degree in opera performance from the University of Tennessee School of Music.  The Houston native has performed principal opera roles with Knoxville Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, the University of Tennessee, and the University of North Texas.  She has also appeared in concert with the University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra.  Sarah will be performing the role of Hebe in Knoxville Opera’s production of H.M.S. Pinafore in November, 2014.

Baritone Kevin Doherty earned his Master’s degree in opera performance from the University of Tennessee School of Music.  The Massapequa, New York, native has performed principal opera roles with International Opera Theatre (Italy), Knoxville Opera, Shreveport Opera, Asheville Opera, Ithaca Opera, Summer Garden Opera (VA), Midwest Institute of Opera (IL), Marble City Opera (Knoxville), the University of Houston, and the University of Tennessee  Kevin has appeared in concert with the Hendersonville (NC) Symphony, Knoxville Symphony, Rapides (LA) Symphony, and at the Brevard and Ashlawn Music Festivals.

 

Free and open to the public, the programs are hosted by the Blount County Public Library, located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville, and sponsored by the Friends of the Blount County Public Library.
