Lisa Wingate, National Bestselling Author, to be at Blount County Public Library
Nationally recognized author, Lisa Wingate, is stopping at the Blount County Public Library during a book tour to promote her latest (20th) book, The Prayer Box. Her mainstream publishers include Bethany House, Penguin and Tyndale House.
Wingate writes inspirational and popular novels and finds inspiration from everyday people and their true stories, so this book tour is called “The Prayer Box Celebrates Untold Stories.” She will talk about some of these people and stories at the library on Monday, September 16, at 7 p.m.
Everyone has stories that have never been shared, and Wingate found herself wanting to write a book about stories of one elderly woman. The woman dies but leaves a legacy of the stories of her life in carefully decorated boxes, stuffed with bits of paper covered in scribbles. A young, struggling mother, Tandi Jo Reese, finds herself cleaning out her landlord’s home and comes across these boxes of stories, stories that have the power to change Tandi’s life.
Wingate is a two-time ACFW Carol Award Winner and seven-time nominee, a Christy Award nominee, and Oklahoma Book Award finalist. Her novel Blue Moon Bay was a Booklist Top Ten of 2012 pick. Recently, the group Americans for More Civility, a kindness watchdog organization, selected Wingate along with Bill Ford, Camille Cosby, and six others, as recipients of the National Civies Award, which celebrates public figures who work to promote greater kindness and civility in American life.
One of a select group of authors, Wingate has become successful in both Christian and mainstream markets, and her works have become a hallmark of Southern fiction. She has been featured in multiple magazines and readers’ lists.
When not writing, Wingate travels as a motivational speaker as well as writing blogs on the Internet.
Wingate lives on a ranch in Texas where she “spoils livestock, raises boys, and teaches Sunday School to high school seniors.” See her website at www.lisawingate.com .
Wingate has written several series of books including the Tending Roses series, Blue Sky Hill books, Daily Texas series, Moses Lake series, and the Texas Hill Country series.
Southland Books will have some of Wingate’s books for sale at the program, including The Prayer Box as well as some of her other well-known titles.
Free and open to the public, the program is sponsored by the Blount County Public Library, located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville.
