Head’s up to local authors! You’ll be happy to learn that the library will be hosting a monthly “Author Day” beginning April 28 in the Carol Darling Meeting Room. So, on the fourth Tuesday of every month thereafter, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we invite local authors to come share their newly published books at an informal reception in this lovely central atrium of our facility. Patrons may ask questions and authors are encouraged to sign and sell their books. A cadre of dedicated volunteers descended upon the warehouse at 406 N. Irish St. On March 16 to begin sorting donated books and other materials in preparation for the annual library book sale scheduled for April 30 and May 1-2, a news release says. The three-day sale is open to the public.

The history of the Art Circle, which is included in "Cumberland County’s First Hundred Years," lists the charter members as being Mesdames H. R. Webb, W. H. Cother, C. E. Snodgrass, F. J. Upham, J. T. Snodgrass, Belle DeRossett, Ralph Robinson and Mrs. Mimi Dunbar. The president in 1956, when this local history was compiled, was Mrs. Lelah Martin.
