SEVIER COUNTY READS "LONG MAN"

SEVIER COUNTY READS "LONG MAN" | Tennessee Libraries | Scoop.it

Amy Greene, author of “Long Man” will be the special guest for Sevier County READS, an initiative to get Sevier County residents involved in a community read. As an author from the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Amy Greene’s book, “Long Man” is based on activities in 1936 during the Great Depression eras the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is flooding land in preparationfor a dam to generate electricity and jobs for the region.

Amy Greene was born and raised in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains where she currently lives with her husband and family. Greene is regarded as one of the best, rising young authors of contemporary Appalachia. Her second novel, “Long Man,” centers on the struggles of farming families as they are forced by the Tennessee Valley Authority to move from their land at the mouth of the Long Man River in Yuneetah.

One holdout, Annie Clyde Dodson, refuses to leave her ancestral lands and remains one day prior to flooding the land by TVA. As a vicious storm approaches, Annie discovers that her three-year-old daughter, Gracie is missing. Or has she been taken by Amos, a mysterious drifter? “Long Man” is a suspenseful, gripping tale of a tight-knit community struggling with change and crisis and how one family faces a terrifying ticking clock to find a missing child. More reviews and further synopsis of “Long Man” can be found at http://amygreeneauthor.com

Ms. Greene will be holding a book talk at the King Family Library, 408 High Street, Sevierville, from 6:00 – 7:00PM on March 23, 2015. A reception will precede the book talk from 5:00 – 5:45PM. Immediately following the book talk and question and answer session, Ms. Greene will sign copies of books available for purchase supplied by Books-A-Million. Copies of the book are available to read prior to the event at the King Family Library.
