As education technology has evolved, so, too, have the kinds of digital tools that school librarians use with their students. More than 750 school librarians responded to SLJ’s survey, representing K–12 public and private schools across the country.

In the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, library staff are often the front-line response for technical troubleshooting. Librarians also introduce teachers to new educational technology tools and strategies, help instruct students in those tools, and offer training to help both teachers and student improve their technology skills and know-how.

That just makes sense - as information is shared through new media, librarians have learned to share it - we have the best job in the world !!!

14 Signs You're Emotionally Intelligent

14 Signs You're Emotionally Intelligent | temas selectos de innovación en la educacion | Scoop.it

Annie M Herbert's curator insight, December 16, 2013 9:45 PM

Sounds like a great place to start students understanding what their emotional intelligence is.  Need to convince students that emotional intelligence makes a difference.

What a quote:

"Your ability to concentrate on the work you're doing or your schoolwork, and to put off looking at that text or playing that video game until after you're done ... how good you are at that in childhood turns out to be a stronger predictor of your financial success in adulthood than either your IQ or the wealth of the family you grew up in,"

Another great quote:

When an emotionally intelligent person experiences a failure or setback, he or she is able to bounce back quickly. This is in part because of the ability to mindfully experience negative emotions without letting them get out of control, which provides a higher degree of resilience.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, December 17, 2013 11:42 AM

What does it mean to be a great leader? I think it is sign of emotional intelligence and so hard to define.

The Complete Über-Geek's Guide to Reading Online

The Complete Über-Geek's Guide to Reading Online | temas selectos de innovación en la educacion | Scoop.it

"Healthy online reading habits require constant gardening. Every Internet company provides us a little plot to tend for, and that’s how they keep our attention where they want it. But the soil is pretty gross in most of them, and the seeds are tightly regulated. If we want to read healthily, we have to build our own info gardens.

The most important gardening task is deciding what to plant — that is, what sources to read — and that’s a personal choice. The topics, tone, and perspective of your information sources are for you to determine. But the bulk of the work is in building and tending the garden, and this guide will suggest some tools and methods to help. And with the gardening work out of the way, you’ll spend most of your time cooking, eating, and sharing. That’s the delicious part, and this guide will offer my best recipes."

Paul Avila's curator insight, November 30, 2013 9:33 PM

This chart can be used for students as a guideline for the right mindset in dealing with their education. Students need the right mindset to achieve in schools and avoid the mental barriers preventing them from growth. I would probably use this chart in the beginning of the school year to show what I expect from my students.  This could be useful for the less motivated students in the class.
