TILA: video communication for intercultural language learning

TILA: video communication for intercultural language learning | TELT | Scoop.it

This telecollaboration project is using BigBlueButton in this set-up "ELF discussions take place in small groups of up to 5 speakers from diverse lingua-cultural backgrounds around the globe. A critical incident scenario ensures natural and semi-authentic communication conditions. Questionnaires and structured interviews help elicit user experience data and speaker profile information. Replay of recorded discussions is used to facilitate introspective speaker comments regarding lingua-cultural divergences, challenges, and strategic solutions."

Shona Whyte's insight:

"The TILA project seeks:

(1) To innovate and enrich language teaching programs at secondary schools and make them more motivating and effective by stimulating telecollaboration for intercultural awareness with
peers of other cultures.

(2) To empower teacher training programmes for developing ICT literacy skills and organizational, pedagogical and
intercultural competences of (student) teachers for telecollaboration, by promoting experiential learning in task development, implementation and evaluation.

(3) To study the possible added value telecollaboration might have in language learning for intercultural understanding of younger learners."
