English phonemic transcription

"Phonology practice using the international phonetic alphabet for English language learners and teachers" by Ted Power.

Shona Whyte:

Many links to places to learn about English pronunciation and practice with vowels and consonants.  Some quite old sites, but useful practice in transcription and phonetics nonetheless.

Had a couple of goes with MP3 files, haven't been able to make it work. Could be me. Anyone else had any success?

I expected that the tool could make transcription automatically. It's goal is make easier as we don't need to change (alt+tab) between the word processor and the player. It's a good help.

Phonetic transcription

Phonetic transcription | TELT | Scoop.it

Sometimes it's good to be able to use phonetic symbols even if you're not teaching phonetics formally.  IPA symbols can be useful for pronunciation awareness, for example.  But there are always problems with compatibility of browsers, wordprocessing software and printers across different computers.

Here are two sites for typing with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

Type it: http://ipa.typeit.org/

Typwriter: http://www.e-lang.co.uk/mackichan/call/pron/type.html

You can click on the letters of the onscreen keyboard on either site, or learn keyboard shortcuts to go faster on typeit.
