Somewhere between a PowerPoint presentation and a full-fledged video is the audio slideshow. Creating audio slideshows can be a good way to add meaning to slides that otherwise might not mean much without a presenter. Here are some ways that students can create audio slideshows.

I haven't done this with students since Slideshare made private sharing part of their premium package, but things have moved on and open sharing of learner presentations has become more common. Lots of free services in this list, some with time limits. Delete the scoop?

Shona Whyte's insight:
An iTILT publication by Hillier, Beauchamp & Whyte just appeared in the BESA journal Educational Perspectives. The editorial notes: "Vol. 5 (2) is a themed edition of the journal, its focus being international and comparative issues in Education Studies. The first article by Emily Hillier, Gary Beauchamp and Shona Whyte involves teachers from schools across seven countries in Europe. It is a study of self-efficacy in the use of interactive whiteboards across educational settings. It offers a pan-European perspective through its report and analysis on the preliminary findings of an EU-funded project called Interactive Technologies in Language Teaching. Significantly, despite reporting initial low levels of self-efficacy with particular features and tools of the IWB, teachers across the European cohort remained positive about the potential benefit of using IWBs to increase pupil participation, engagement and motivation."

"2011 TESOL Spain talk on Second Language Acquisition and its possible implications for ELT. It was delivered by a guy called Geoff Jordan, who’s I’m delighted to announce is now the second guest poster I’ve had here. Geoff has lived in Spain since 1981, working at ESADE, Barcelona for 28 years, first as a language teacher and then as Director of Studies. Since 2004, he’s been freelance, doing English immersion courses from home, working with post-doctoral students at the Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona and on the Distance Learning MA in AL and TESOL programme at Leicester University. Geoff also has his own blog, aimed particularly at those doing postgraduate work in Applied Linguistics, but surely of interest to anyone involved in teaching EFL." Hugh Dellar Delete the scoop?

By Maryellen Weimer, PhD For some time now my good friend and colleague Larry Spence and I have been discussing the role of questions in the college classroom. The conversation started with concerns over the quantity and quality of questions students ask—those earnest questions about what's going to be on the exam and gently demanding queries about what the teacher "wants" in almost any kind of written assignment. Those questions are important to students, but they certainly are not the questions of curious learners nor are they the type of questions that motivate learning and intellectual development. Article by Dan Frost and Alice Henderson in APLIUT (open access).
